In one word: APPEAL. It is standard procedure (sadly) for SSDI and insurance

companies to deny, deny, deny hoping that the person will go away or die. Your

medical records back up what you say. Get letters from your doctors saying that

you had no symptions prior to the beggining of the insurance. Eventually, you

will win, but you've got to be tought to get what you want. Very sad for the

people who don't have the ablity or the time to wait it out.

Also, check your insurance policy. Pre-existing condtions are NOT necessarily

reasons to automatically exclude you from many of these policies. In my case, I

had already been diagnosed with lupus (wrong, but clearly pre-existing) when I

signed on for disability insurance. In my case, I questioned the company BEFORE

I started paying the insurance and was told that because I was able to WORK that

was all that was required. And signing up for private disability for me was a

susucker bet: I knew that at some time I WOULD get sick again and, of cocourse,

I did, and have been collecting disablity insurance since then (1994). So read

your policy carefully. It may not be even true. Lately, I have found that low

level people at various groups (the airlines, my insurance company,my phone

company) will give you one ansnswer, but if you go higher, you'll get a

DIFFERENT answer. So call them again and ask again and ask for the booklet with

the rules.

Good luck with this.

Hi ! I am so sorry to hear about your LTD being denied! I had hoped myself

that I would be able to return to work before my STD ran out in January. But

things aren't going the way I had hoped. I just got approved for LTD. But my

symptoms clearly didn't begin until after I had been at my job for quite a

while. So I don't have any knowledge about appealing. But I would definitely try

that if I were you. I know all this is scary. At my hospital I may have to repay

all of the contributions they have made to my benefits, health insurance, etc.

during my leave if I don't come back(I've been out since the beg of August).

That is terrifying! I have not been let go yet, but my boss wants to meet to

" discuss " my return to work as she clearly stated she can't wait for me to find

the right med..which I haven't yet. So basically I think I'm going to get fired

from a job I love & find fulfilling, working with people I love at a hospital I

love because I'm sick. Very scary. I hope the Enbrel helps you! I have done 3

shots so far and have not noticed any improvement, but everyone is different. I

know a lot of people have done well with it. I guess I just wanted to let you

know you're not alone! It's so hard realizing you don't necessarily have control

over what is happening in your life with this illness. I hope things get

better!!!!!!!
