Looking for a DAN doc in France or UK

Hi All,

Is there anyone on this board who sees a DAN! doc in France? I see

there is only one listed on the ARI website.

How about the UK and is it doable from Paris.

Also, if anyone has experience with labs, ease of getting supplements

etc. I would really appreciate it.

My husband has a potential job change which would move us to Paris for

2 years and I am a little freaked out.

Would appreciate any insight/feedback on treatment in UK or France.

Thanks,

Hello;

My husband had a job offer early last summer in France. We didn't end up

moving, but we did investigate a lot and even made a trip to the area. It

wasn't in Paris. It was closer to Lyon, in the French Alps. But I would be

happy to share what we learned.

There was one DAN doctor in France. We tried so many times to reach her.

We never did manage to get through. This was apparently quite common. She

is apparently good, however just way too busy and impossible to reach.

There are biomedical European Yahoo Groups as well. I can forward you the

links. You can reach parents following biomedicals in Europe and they can

give you a handle on DANs in England and perhaps France.

We also did some investigations about GFCF products in France. There is a

chain, I think they were called Satorie. I can check in my files again. I

found that there was not as much GFCF as here (we are in Canada). Organic

farming was just as prevalent if not more so. Now again, this was in the

Alps. Extra cost for GFCF and organic appeared to be about the same as

extra cost in Canada. I was a little disappointed that we wouldnt be able

to try raw dairy products. I was looking forward to investigating this for

my son and whether or not he would be able to tolerate.

From what we could see autism is treated more as a psychological issue than

biomedical or even behavioral. And the school system is very very very

different. We are homeschoolers, and I had some concerns here. I think

those were alleviated in terms of homeschooling in France. However I

suggest that you research the schools well. It is very different....much

more old school. Unless you are able to go to an international school. Or

a Montessori school. this might be different.

We had ascertained that we would likely be shipping our supplements over

from Canada. Some things would have been better. Homeopaths and

naturopathic practises are more common, and some are even funded. But many

for many of the supplements it would have been cheaper for us to have them

shipped and pay duty. It appeared that with some of the supplements being

covered, we might very well break even from what we pay here. But we hadn't

managed to confirm this. We also couldn't find compounding pharmacies. now

again, we hadn't managed to get in touch with the DAN, so I don't know if

she had sources.

All the best with your investigations. Please feel free to email me offline

if you would like more info.

Hi Juli

We use a great one in the UK who has at least one other patient in France. You see her once then can do the rest by telephone consultation. If you want her details let me know. You would need to get the Eurostar to London then another train further north. It's very doable but you'd want to spend the night in the UK. Or you could fly - there are a couple very cheap airlines that go from the UK.

Re supplements, you could probably order from www.nutricentre.com which is based in the UK and have them shipped. They sell most things. If you join the Treating Autism group in the UK you get 25% discount on them.

Paris has quite a few organic (biologique in France) health food shops as well as a big organic market on Blvd Raspail every Sunday morning.

Let me know if you want more info

My DAN is French and she is the principal scientist at the Autism Treatment Trust in Scotland. She is fantastic. It's a bit difficult for us having to fly up there and back on the same day but she is worth it. I can only rave about her.
