Guest guest
Hi everyone, I posted about this last year, but can now offer it again. As part of my research through Monash University I am able to provide a FREE 1-day ACT workshop for weight loss maintenance and emotional eating. “There are no diets, pills or shakes! Instead, the workshop aims to teach people new psychological skills designed to help them better handle difficult thoughts and feelings that may be contributing to their emotional eating and weight loss maintenance struggleâ€. Some eligibility criteria apply including, having lost weight recently and being at least 18 years old. The workshops are held in the south-east of Melbourne. For more information see: http://www.actingonweight.com Or contact Emma: 0468 548 518 or actingonweight@... This research has the approval of the Monash University Ethics Committee from October 2009: approval #CF09/2473-2009001435. I hope this offers at least a few people an opportunity. Thanks for reading, and thanks generally for such a great ‘space’ for ACT. Kind Regards, Emma. Guest guest
Alright. We'll just all stay fat over here. Just kidding. It's a shame but maybe if there's more demand for it the workshop will be held here too. I think ACT is very relevant to emotional eating. And even though I've never really had a weight problem I've struggled with emotional eating for most of my life. I've done a lot of work in that area and very closely related to the principles of ACT. It's very important for people who struggle with their eating to identify the feelings behind their food issues. It would be great to see more weightloss 'specialists' focusing on the internal factors driving people to eat rather than drumming into everyone what they shouldn't eat and that they need to exercise. It's quite obviously not workingAnyway it's a subject I'm very passionate about. Sent from my iPhone Hello EmmaI assume this won't be available in Perth?ThanksBirgit Sent from my iPhone Hi everyone, I posted about this last year, but can now offer it again. You might be interested in " Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Eating Disorders, " which just came out in hardcover - it's mostly for therapists working with clients, but the authors also say they're writing for anyone whose life has been touched by disordered eating. The book does not look like light reading, but the lead author is Sandoz, who I believe was a student of , and is one of the co-authors - so I would guess it's powerful stuff from an ACT/behavioral point of view. - Randy
