Guest guest Posted June 8, 2011 Report Share Posted June 8, 2011 Hi folks, I have an interesting case. It is a 7 year old spayed female cocker spanial that had a left TPLO about 9 weeks ago. At the time of that surgery there was a lipoma apparentley somewhat infiltrative on the lateral aspect of the same leg that was excised. During excision of the lipoma the peroneal nerve was inadvertently cut. The nerve injury was noted immediately and the severed ends were reapposed and sutured with 5-0 PDS. The dog initially had CP defecits, decreased flexion of the hock and poor sensation on the dorsal aspect of the metatarsus. Currently she placed the foot well, her CP deficits are resolved but she has developed a very odd gait. The gait was not present at the 4 week recheck. The owner thinks it started about 5 or 6 weeks post-op. I am attaching a link to video of the dog on land and in the UWTM. Does anyone have any thoughts on this gait? Second, any thoughts on what I can do for it. My original plan was repeated contractions, stretch to pattern, stroke/tap cranial tibial, destination jumping and UWTM. The dog can jump well as noted in the exam room yesterday at her discharge. The TPLO is healed and the knee is good. She still has poor withdrawal/flexion of the hock with toe pinch and the gait??? Any thoughts will be greatly appreciated. UWTM Hopefully the links will work so you can see the gait.
