Guest guest
FYI>>> WEBSITE OFFERS FREE TRAINING IN COMPUTER SOLUTIONS FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES http://at-training.com Buffalo, NY, USA, September, 2001 -- A new site, Assistive Technology Training Online (ATTO), offers free, online training in assistive technology solutions to help students with disabilities. The site, at http://at-training.com/, consists of "virtual workshops" targeted to teachers, parents, and assistive technology service providers who serve elementary-level students. A new document, AAP Releases New Guidelines for Treatment of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, has been added to the UCP site. You may review this document at http://www.ucp.org/document.cfm/2471. "Assistive Technology" consists of tools and strategies to help give students with disabilities access to the general curriculum. ATTO addresses all types of disabilities, focusing specifically on computer software and hardware solutions for the classroom. For students with disabilities, computer technology used with assistive devices (such as special keyboards, switches, pointing systems, and text-to-speech software) frequently provides the only means to accessing educational technology. Mistrett, at the Center for Assistive Technology at the University at Buffalo, directs the project. "For children with disabilities in public school classrooms, assistive technologies are their tools to extend their physical, social and communicative abilities", says Mistrett. "However, unless their parents, teachers, and service providers are trained, the effective use of assistive technology and its potential will remain unused." ATTO's training modules describe helpful strategies, current products on the market, examples of real-life uses, and explanations of federal laws and legislation. Step-by-step “how to†tutorials for specific products will also be available soon. ATTO can be accessed at http://at-training.com/. ATTO's primary funding source is the Office of Special Education and Rehabilitation Services, US Department of Education under the Research and Innovation to Improve Services and Results for Children with Disabilities Model Demonstration Projects (CDFA

Guest guest
Pete, Thanks for the response. I think what I'm really asking is what is the bipolar montage at t3/t4 training that's different than training 2-channel at t3/t4. I understand that it's " difference " training, but is it actually training a different part of the brain? This has probably been explained to me before, but I still am unclear about it. Guest guest
Jane, One guess (and that's all it can really be right now) is that you are training through more sob-cortical structures with T3/T4, while you are training more the temporal lobes (which, of course, are often activated by the subcortical structures--amygdala and hippocampus--directly below them). Guest guest
Hi Jane, I'm not Pete ... but let me throw in my 2 cents worth. I think this question is best understood mathematically. A single channel T3/T4 montage is actually T3 - (minus) T4 or you could do T4-T3. It doesn't really matter which way you do it because there are no negative values in terms of EEG amplitude, the signal will just look upside down from what it would have if you make T4 your active placement. Actually, both sites are " active " . So it is difference training in that the signal being expressed will be the difference between the two sites, that is, subtracting the values at T4 from those at T3 or vice versa. Two channel training, then, is actually two individual " difference " signals being added together. In this case the two individual signals are T3 - (minus) A1 and T4-A2, the ear sites being presumed to be neutral. So the mathematical equation for two channel training is actually (T3-A1) + (T4-A2). Does that make sense? Mark Darling Sunshine Coast, Australia
