Guest guest
Hi Katharine, sometimes it is the talcum powder inside the gloves that is the problem. My favourites for hot skin conditions are Scut. baicalensis, Plantago and licorice. I would add something anti-fungal(thyme?) to the external cream - a touch of eczema in a hot, sweaty environment plus steroids provide a perfect ground for fungi, have seen it a few times, it just looks like very angry eczema, but responds to the antifungal treatment as opposed to just anti-inflammatory/anti-allergic.Hope it helps To: ukherbal-list Sent: Tuesday, 10 July 2012, 12:33 Subject: contact dermatitis Dear List I have a dentist coming this evening in a bad way with severe what sounds like contact dermatitis on his hands. He wears gloves 8 hours a day. Has been a dentist 14 years with no problem but the last few months has developed hot, inflamed skin condition. Steroids controlled in within 2 days initially but no longer touch it. Latex gloves have been a problem in the past. He now uses ?nitrile gloves. Any ideas welcome. thanks Katharine
Guest guest
I have a hairdresser with a similar problem - high dose fish oil in the diet helped a lot. I also gave her a comfrey cream with licorice etc. You will no doubt think all I think of is gluten in the diet - it really isn't true - but a GF diet did help this lady a lot, but the gluten in her hair products was a problem.I also think the talc in the gloves can be irritating, esp if the skin has already erupted. Guest guest
Latex, talc - anything can irritate. Suggest he uses pure cotton gloves inside the surgical ones. He'll need several pairs as he'll have to wash them regularly - if he doesn't the build up of sweat etc can also lead to irritation. Boots used to sell them. best wishes > > I have a hairdresser with a similar problem - high dose fish oil in the diet helped a lot. Guest guest
Makes me think of Berberis aquifolium in small doses 2.5-5mls per week into whatever you're using. Also other like cooling alteratives. Nerves may also be shattered by screams etc.!!!Lorraine Lorraine Hodgkinson AHG MRCHMHERBS AND HELPERS6, Butts Fold, Cockermouth, Cumbria, CA13 9HY. Guest guest
Thank you for several very helpful replies. Unfortunately by law, by which I take it the px means he is required by his professional body, he has to use a different pair of gloves for each patient who comes to see him, and cotton wouldn't fit the bill. He wasn't open to cotton gloves underneath the nitrile/vinyl etc gloves either. best wishes Katharine > > > Dear List > > > > I have a dentist coming this evening in a bad way with severe what sounds like contact dermatitis on his hands.
