Guest guest
Hi. I'm new to the list and don't know if I'm the only one in my situation, but have any parents been told they were allergic to thimerosol? Back in the 1970s, many contact lens products contained thimerosol as a preservative. Eventually, it was removed as an ingredient. But I remember a doctor telling me I was allergic to the thimerosol, and many people were. Is there any link between such an allergy, and having a child with autism (who did receive vaccines at birth with thimerosol)? Or is this completely unrelated? __________________________________________________
Guest guest
, Your " allergy " to thimerosal is really mercury toxicity in yourself, the doc just didn't want to scare you/tell you the truth, IMO. Mercury passes the placenta so your child most likely already had a heavy load of it upon birth and the addition of more in the vaccines put him over the edge. Have your own hair analysis done and I bet you're toxic, too. Do you have lots of amalgam dental fillings? S On Sun, 29 April 2001, The Kents wrote: > > <html><body> > <tt> > Hi. Guest guest
-- Reading this reminded me when I called the Texas State Dept. and asked them about the mercury in the shots. The lady told me the same thing. Your children did'nt react to the vaccine it self but they maybe allergic to the preservative like saline solution for contact wearers. I said, " How would I know if a newborn is allergic to that? " You may have them tested. And I asked how and she said ask your doctor. I wished I had this group sooner. You all are supportive and it's nice to have someone to share this with that is on your side. Take care, Kerri - In @y..., l_shepard@m... wrote: > , > Your " allergy " to thimerosal is really mercury toxicity in yourself, the doc just didn't want to scare you/tell you the truth, IMO. Guest guest
, That's very interesting. At the time my allergy was diagnosed, I did not have any silver fillings, only the white-colored kind they use on front teeth. Still, I plan to have myself tested for mercury and this MT protein I have been reading about. --- l_shepard@... wrote: > , > Your " allergy " to thimerosal is really mercury > toxicity in yourself, the doc just didn't want to > scare you/tell you the truth, IMO. Guest guest
, I went to a mercury-free dentist's office today and got to talking with the receptionist. She mentioned that she has a thimerosal " allergy " but had no idea thimerosal contains mercury! I suppose some people could have an allergy to whatever other ingredient the thimerosal contains... Had you ever had amalgam fillings? Did they get removed by the proper protocol? Did you eat lots of fish, have Rhogam shots, or other exposure to mercury? This is unknown at present, but it does not appear to be causal - that is it may be more common, but people without the allergy do get poisoned just fine. > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
, Hi. Since my diagnosis of thimerosal allergy, I have had silver fillings (including one that I broke off and apparently got swallowed). I also had vaccines as a child and an adult that I assume contained thimerosol. I'm very interested in getting the blood test for the MT protein to see if it's missing. That's the protein that most people have and that binds mercury, but that people with autism supposedly lack. I'd be interested in hearing from anyone who has had this test, and what the results were. --- l_shepard@... wrote: > , > I went to a mercury-free dentist's office today and > got to talking with the receptionist. Guest guest
I was reading some of the archives, trying to find some information on supplements, and I noticed a few posts asking about parents with thimerosal allergies. Yes, I am allergic to thimerosol too. I've never been told that by a doctor, but noticed it myself from my reactions to my contact lens solution years ago. About six years ago, during the time I was pregnant with my son, the eye doctor tried to get me to use some solution with thirmerosol in it, and I refused explaining how I had reacted to it in the past. So even six years ago, it was still being used in some contact lens solutions - and may still be in some brands today. A month ago I had a bad ear infection and was prescribed antibiotic ear drops for it. The ear drops made my ears SO MUCH WORSE, so finally I looked at the ingredients, and they had THIRMEROSOL in them!! This was just a month ago - so thirmerosol is still in products out there. Anyway, to answer the original question from those posts in the archives, yes I'm another case of a parent who's allergic to thirmerosol and who has a child who may be mercury poisoned. (We are about to get the hair test done on my son to find out. Now I wonder if I should get a hair test done on myself as well!) I've heard from others, too, that they have bought products still being sold with thimerosal. I think nose drops and ear drops is what I've heard. I've not come across any nasty contact lens solution. >Anyway, to answer the original question from those posts in the >archives, yes I'm another case of a parent who's allergic to >thirmerosol and who has a child who may be mercury poisoned. Just having an ASD kid is enough reason to get yourself tested IMO (that is, if you are the biological parent of an ASD kid). Since you know you are reactive to mercury, that is another reason. Not meaning to be scary about it, but I would bet that your hair test comes out showing problem with mineral transport. Moria

Guest guest
Yes, I use to get a red sunburned-looking rash whereever my contact lens solution touched my face. I realized on my own that it was the contact lens solution that had thimerosol in it that was causing the problems for me (although I had no idea what thimerosol was at the time!) and began getting only none thimerosol brands. Less than a year ago, I was prescribed some ear drops which caused EXTREME swelling in both my ears. After a few days of my ears getting worse from the drops, rather than better as they should have been getting, I read the ingredients label. Thimerosol!! Now I have it listed on my medical chart as an actual allergy. My husband's step mother is allergic to thimerosol too, but she is not a blood relative of myself or my son. Guest guest
Yes, I am allergic to thimerosal. Of course I did not know it was thimerosal. I just knew that I needed to use the " sensitive eyes " formulation for contact lenses. The " thimerosal " solution would make my eyes puss up and everywhere on my skin that it touched would get a blister like spot on it. I would have little rivers of blisters running down my face. It only took the first day for me to switch! Then after I would get anything like a flu shot or rhogam etc. I would get very sick. I'd get a terrible migrane and throw up. Have a terrible case of " brain fog " for literally weeks later. I didn't know why :-( Sadly I think I handled a ton of this crap as a nurse and may have developed my allergy to it through repeated exposure. (I used to give flu shots UGH!!!!) Of course back then I used to think that the redness and irritation on my hands was from frequent hand washing :-( Now well, I would have to say it was more likely from a skin reaction to the thimerosal. My hands would literally bleed. I used to have to wear gloves at work all day. The after I had amalgam fillings put in my health deteriorated to the point I was barely able to walk. I would spend literally a week at a time in bed. Now over a year post amalgam removal I am getting my life back and feel much better :-) Donna :-)
