Guest guest
I have been on Prednisone for over 10 years and it is the worst drug i have ever been on. I have no adrenal gland left (a very important gland), osteoporosis, severe insomnia, immune dysfunction, gained 100 pounds, lost my period and found out that causes uterine cancer ....It has really ruined my body. At the time nothing helped my pain and swelling; I was completely bed ridden in pain and could not even move to feed myself. Nobody ever diagnosed me so in the ER was put on Prednisone and couldn't get off it. After 8 years I got down to 5 mg. and now take Hydrocortisone but my adrenal gland still doesn't work so i will have to stay on it indefinatley until maybe perhaps some day that organ works again. I also know about the mood swings but at least the other med they are better. Am glad you can get off. Annette VickiFL@... wrote: I really despise Prednisone. I despise the side effects. I am supposed to be on Cortef, but I can't afford it right now. I am also on Thyroid medication. Maybe that is why I got so sick. I stopped the Prednisone last night. I just can't take the side effects anymore. I woke up this morning and felt like I had been drinking all night and I didn't! That was it. If I take a relapse, or I get sick again, I'll have 5 days of Prednisone left. I wont take it unless I am in real pain, though. Guest guest
Hello Annette, Bless you. What you have had to endure because of Prednisone is awful. As an RN, I have see first hand the horrible effects of this drug. It is virtually a life saver, but it can also ruin a person's body. My neurosurgeon put me on a dose pak once after the elevator at work fell three flights with me in it (Two months after my first back surgery). The drug was horrible. I didn't sleep for three days and thought I was literally losing my mind. I finally called him and told him that I was not about to take any more of it. Somebody should be repremanded seriously for just putting you on Prednisone and leaving you on it without a diagnosis! From a medical, ethical and legal standpoint that is uncalled for. Annette, heads should roll for this. You will suffer from these horrible side effects the rest of your life. If I were you I would seriously seek an attorney and find out what my options are. It is ludicrous for a physician to put someone on such potent steroids for so long without a viable reason or diagnosis. Why didn't they put you on a pain management program that consisted of pain medication and not something that would devastate your body so? If I were you I would definitely be attempting to file a medical malpractice suit. More than likely it was not medically necessary for you to be on steroids for so long. I would demand some answers and fast. Best of luck and pain free blessings, Authors Webpage: http://www.AuthorsDen.com/Huber Huber@... Guest guest
I have been dealing with EN for the last 6 years. I have done 3 cycles of Prednisone. The first time I was on it for almost a year and All my nodules and the intense pain went away....started on 60mg and titrated down. The second cycle was started at 5mg and went up to 30mg for about 3 months. The nodules and the pain went away with that treatment also, but the dark spots remained . The third time was only 6 weeks starting at 30mg. The nodules and the dark spots did not go away but the pain did subside some. I did not have very good luck with side effects though....tore up my stomach, ran up my blood pressure, and messed with my eyesight. LOL...could always be worse though! I am now on Colchicine and am very happy with it. No major side effects. Nodules are down but dark spots remain. (I have been on it for about 8 weeks now) Good Luck and God Bless!! Liz L. The higher doses do affect my glucose levels, make my heart race, cause sleeplessness, stomach issues and iritability. I have had a flare-up that began in February and my last lump finally resolved about a week ago. I still have the black bruise-like areas on my legs but the lumps are gone. I took the advise from many of the people in this group and rested with elevated legs, used ice packs and began a gluten-free diet. It worked - finally! I did not get better over night, but I did start seeing improvements within about three days or so of making these changes.! Good luck! We all know how frustrating it is to live this way. I hope you feel better soon. Subject: prednisoneTo: erythema_nodosum_Group Date: Thursday, August 18, 2011, 3:22 PM I've been dealing with EN since October. I've taken an sski and many other medicines. I have some HUGE nodules on one leg that shrinks a little with cortizone shots, but they do not go away. Some of the smaller nodules go away with the shots. Anyway, my dermo has given me 30mg of prednisone to take for a month. I'm nervous because I'm a type 1 diabetic, by my endo says to keep track of my blood sugars. I'm curious to know if anyone else has been treated with Prednisone. If so, did it help? Any other adivce? Thank you for listening. Amy
Guest guest
Amy,I used prednisone for over 3 years with very little to no change. I ended up getting off it (got pregnant) and have not gone back on since. The side effects were scary enough and having to have my blood drawn monthly, as well as seeing the ophthalmologist every 6 months is rather costly. Since then I've been looking to natural solutions. Prednisone was developed to treat life-threatening conditions in which the benefits outweigh the severe potential side-effects. The manufacturer's statement of the indication for the use of prednisone clearly states that its use should be restricted to "serious or life threatening conditions..." Unfortunately for me, I learned this AFTER taking it for 3+ years. You have to realize that EN is in an of itself not a disease but an immunological response to a deeper problem, so when you treat the symptoms of EN you are not fixing the problem. The key is to find out what caused your EN and treat that and the EN will resolve by itself. Just some thoughts. To: erythema_nodosum_Group From: shmamila@...Date: Thu, 18 Aug 2011 19:22:21 +0000Subject: prednisone I've been dealing with EN since October.
