Guest guest
My son was born with Lyme and we didn't get him tested until he was 16 (recently). His score was just a bit more positive than the one below. I coiled him once, 4 days before the test. If I had it to do over, I would coil someone for a good three weeks and let them start producing antibodies (especially if they've had it a long time), then run the test. Some people will do an abx challenge a few before. Now that we are treating my son, he is herxing like crazy. Hello everyone: I need assistance with helping someone interpret their Igenex test. I send this individual to a ND (whom I don't trust) only as a means to get tested for Lyme. It's hard where we live to find someone and the Doctor whom I do trust would have been over 600.00 for a first visit. According to this ND the test was inconclusive but I'm going to post the entire result. 18 kDa - 22 kDa - **23-25 kDa 28 kDa - 30 kDa **31 kDa ind **34 kDa - **39 kDA ind **41 kDA ** 45 kDa - 58 kda + 66 kDa - 73 kDa- **83-93 kDa - also she had a CD57+/CD3 Cell count blood normal abnormal referebce range cells gated: lymphocytes positive fraction 1.1 1.1-20.0 % absolute count: 12 L 35-450 cells/ul I'm not sure if this means her CD57 was 12. This poor individual has already been diagnosed with MS. She told me she was bite by 2 ticks hicking so that's when I encouraged her to get tested. Her neurologist says that her current symtpoms are not MS related. She is achy, joint pain, fatigue...classic Lyme symptoms. Any help would be appreciated. a
Guest guest
Hi a, If you go to the home page of this group, you will see the files section in the left hand column. That is where the group files are stored. It contains documents uploaded by members. I uploaded a document there, which lists all the bands on the western blot, and their meanings. Dr. Singleton, author of "The Lyme Disease Solution", believes that if someone tests postive for band number 41, and also tests positive for any band that is specific to Lyme, then that is a positive result. In other words, just two bands, but the "right" bands, indicate Lyme. You can readily determine which bands are specific to Lyme from the document in the group files. From the test results you posted, this looks like a positive result by Dr. Singleton's standards, which btw, do not follow IDSA or CDC guidelines (which have been proven to be influenced by faulty data and special interests). Please refer to "The Lyme Disease Solution", by Dr. Singleton, page 104, where he states: "Studies have shown that the most Lyme-specific Western blot "bands" are: 18, 23 - 25, 31, 34, 39, and 83 - 93. Any one of these, along with band 41 (which appears early and is specific for all borrelia including Lyme), strongly suggests Lyme exposure." Please read further on pp. 104 - 105 of "The Lyme Disease Solution", for more information. Best, Jane Subject: Re: Igenex testTo: Lyme_and_Rife Date: Thursday, April 15, 2010, 3:53 PM Hi a,Nice to hear from you... :-)Well I really never pay any attention to tests, all of them can and often are inaccurate. My feeling is 'Got symptoms, got Lyme." That being said, Igenex is certainly the best lab for Lyme... Here is a few links that may help you better understand the results of this test.http://www.anapsid.org/lyme/wb.htmlhttp://flash.lymenet.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/022767.htmlhttp://www.publichealthalert.org/Articles/jamesschaller/western%20blots%20made%20easy.htmlThe CD-57 test is not a good test to judge whether one has a low or high infection rate... A lower number would meanthe person isn't feeling well, a higher number would mean they should feel well, yet many report just the opposite.Marc Fett, moderator of LymeStrategies has this to say about the CD-57 test, NK stands for natural killer cells http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_killer_cell:>>>We were at one time looking at Stricker's CD57 test as a better 'monitor' of the overall condition during treatment, but could not ultimately. We have since found many LLMDs do not adhere to this test either. The main problem we had is that it can vary, in fact, if in the midst of a herx or flare-up, is often seen lower. Which would make sense as its measuring immune and not actual microbial load.To udnerscore the variability, there have been cases of folks feeling poorly with normal to high NK counts, and conversely, folks feeling better overall with lower NK. I know if one gal feeling significantly better all the way around and showing 0 (that's zero) NK count(!)Until a better monitor benchmark is found, folks keeping regular diaries and logs and comparing gains, as well as notable symptom improvement, appears to be the most empirical way to gauge progress.<<<That $600 for the first office visit is actually lower than what most charge, but in my opinion, it still is far too much.. This all changes if we get a favorable ruling from the IDSA and insurance starts paying for Lyme again... Guest guest
Hi , I am sorry your son has to go through this... But at least he is being treated, just knowing what the disease is sure does help.. And at age 16, he has a strong immune system in his favor.. This is such a tough age though to have a chronic illness, kids at that age really need to be thinking about their future, but it's not so easy having Lyme... Guest guest
Hi , In many ways you are so lucky that you know what is causing your son's illness. My son was 28 when I found out I had Lyme. He has had Grand Mal seizures all of his life. Now I don't think he believes me that I believe his seizures are a result of Lyme or Mycoplasma. I think my kids just think I am a hypochondriac, as probably many people who do not understand Lyme. I worry so much about my son, because I think he is at great risk of having major health problems. Unfortunately, many young people have a sense of immortality. I wish I could have known all of this stuff when he was living at home. Guest guest
I haven't been coiling him for about a month now (too difficult w/unreliable herxes and school), but we have been gradually increasing Teasel (from LadyB) and GSE. His mood (remember he's always agitated and irritable) is improving a bit. (Monday we send in our KPU tests) Glad you are feeling better! Pace Pace Pace :-)L Hi , I am sorry your son has to go through this... But at least he is being treated, just knowing what the disease is sure does help.. Guest guest
Hi ,I share your concern. I keep trying to point out to my grown children that I thought I was healthy throughout most of their childhood, except for occasional baffling symptoms and complaints and that it wasn't until I hit my fifties that the wheels came off the wagon; that lots of people, including, (Godforbid) them, (who were conceived after my tick bite), are walking around without a clue that they might have Lyme. All we can do is become knowledgeable, acquire helpful equipment, and keep our fingers crossed and our tongues bitten.Be well,Léna Hi , In many ways you are so lucky that you know what is causing your son's illness. Guest guest
Oh, yeah, I've got a daughter (20) who probably has 10% symptoms. I know she was conceived when I had it. She wants nothing of it. That's OK, I'll be here for her when she crashes (or I'll leave her my info ;-) Seizures are really scary. I have a friend who has them, and she refuses to look at anything but mainstream (wait we can't call it that any more because more people see integrated doctors than 'mainstream') hmmm, alopathic western medicine. She is terrified if she does anything different she'll have a seizure. Maybe if she had them more often she'd be encouraged to try something else. Now she just settles for taking the powerful drugs, sleeping until 1 p.m. , and letting her life go by and children grow up while she's asleep. So sad. Of course, we all can't be uber research geeks - like my husband reminds me. L Hi ,I share your concern. Guest guest
Hi , If your son still has seizures, consider using mag oil... This will help stop the seizures for good... Shan just wrote about his success with it... A raw diet may help your son, include a lot of juicing (pure juicing, no fiber) like the Gerson diet... Has saved a lot of folks from serious illnesses, including stage #4 cancers...
