ME time

I wanted to let all our new friends in on a secret weapon that quite of few of us have learned the value of and remind everyone else to try their best to make time for it.

I learned of it many years ago and try to spread it's magic.. for it is magic, costs no money and is so individual it's perfect!

I call it ME time. What is it? It's so simple, yet does so much for our health and well being. It's a period of time that each of us sets aside just for ourselves. It's a planned event. Some do it every day, some only once a week.. but if you can find the time it is so wonderful.

Pick just 30 minutes or an hour a day to do something just for yourself. A bubble bath, reading a book, staring at a cloud, drawing a picture, writing a poem. Watching a flower open. Taking a walk by the water, in the park, through the trees. Playing with the puppy next door. Taking with a friend on the phone. What ever it is that strikes your fancy. Just let everyone know that you've set aside this little bit of time to help your body and your mind to heal and to mellow and to learn to coup with all the changes that you've been going through and still face.

Now you know that no matter how horrible your day is.. how bad you feel..... your ME time is coming tonight (or whatever time you've got set aside for it) and that it will be your reward for making it through the day.

It's horrible at work today. Work is piling up, the boss is snapping and your head hurts.... if you make it through today.. you can go soak in a strawberry bubble bath for your ME time or maybe stop at the park and sit by the water for a bit on the way home. Or maybe grab a book and go sit under a tree and feel the breeze blow and hear the birds sing while you read.

Just taking a bit of time out for just yourself.. To totally splurge and do something just for the joy of it does wonders for your mental health, reduces your stress, actually lowers your blood pressure. It lets you pull yourself together to face the challenges of life. Even for those of us that feel so miserable and worn out and achy and tired looking forward to and enjoying ME time can be just the medicine you need to make it through the bad times.

Don't let anyone steal your ME time. It's a teasure that you need to protect fiercely as it helps you to feel better. As it helps you to get through tomorrow.

If you are a ME time virgin.... hehehehehehe, couldn't resist use of the term! It's Friday... see if you can grab a couple of hours over the weekend to initiate your ME time and get a really good feel for it... Do something really fun....

a picnic

go fishing

head to the conservatory or zoo

go to a library

go window shopping

go for a ride in the country

go to a movie that you love, or rent one, and enjoy it without worrying if the person you are with enjoys it, you are by yourself, it's your ME time

take out canvas and paints and create art - just for you, no one to judge

write a book, a short story, a poem or start a journal

get some clay and make a work of art

put together a picture puzzle

lay in the grass and stare at the clouds

Do something that makes you feel glad to be you.

Print a copies of this email and give a copy to your hubby or wife or SO, your kids.. whoever is likely to pout if you say that you need time for yourself.

Part of our healing comes from within us.. and to tap into that power we need to get to know ourselves again. ME time helps so much for that along with all the other wonderful things it provides.

.... and what is just as much fun.. sharing ME time with the group... it's one of the things that we'll really be encouraging over in the TTSG Cafe... It's soooooo much fun to hear what other folks are doing for ME time and often gives us ideas for other things that we'd like to do during our own.
