Guest guest
Hello my friends, I have a question. My brain is not functioning well at this time of the am, with a headache to boot. Does this device help with nerve pain, say sciatica? Thank you, Kathleen in NC
Guest guest
Hi Katheen in NC Your question was: Does this device help with nerve pain, say sciatica? My Neurostim is for nerve pain, specifically Intercostal Neuralgia. I don't know if it will help with sciatica; I copied some info from the MEDTRONIC wed site for you ...... hope it helps Thank you Chaz --------------------------------- How Neurostimulation Controls Pain Neurostimulation delivers low voltage electrical stimulation to the spinal cord or targeted peripheral nerve to block the sensation of pain. One theory, the Gate Control Theory of pain developed by researchers Melzack and Wall, proposes that neurostimulation activates the body's pain inhibitory system. According to this theory, there is a gate in the spinal cord that controls the flow of noxious pain signals to the brain. The theory suggests that the body can inhibit these pain signals or " close the gate " by activating certain non-noxious nerve fibers in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord. The neurostimulation system, implanted in the epidural space, stimulates these pain-inhibiting nerve fibers, masking the sensation of pain with a tingling sensation (paresthesia).1,2 Neurostimulation may be the appropriate treatment for the management of certain chronic pain conditions, including: Failed Back Syndrome (FBS), Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), and arachnoiditis. (See the Patient Selection section for a more detailed list of conditions and Important Safety Information and Risks for specific indications.) Guest guest
Kathleen>>> Does this device help with nerve pain, say sciatica?>>> Kathleen, I can only speak for myself but it does help my nerve pain in my legs by about 80% so that is pretty good. If you want good info on it go to www.medtronics.com they are the ones who make it. Take care, Ann
