DDD is degenerative disk disease. Do a google search on that and you'll

find tons of information.

DDD= Degenerative disc disease...you can find lots of info on it.

and, yeah, it sux...

I also have had the epidural steroidal injections...Since I also

have Congenital stenosis, it didn't help me at all, in fact, it made

my pain worse...I felt like my spine would explode. This was done in

96 or 97 I think when I was trying everything before my 1st surgery.

Just my experience...Blessed Be, Lori in California

I don't think you were asking me but since I have DDD I will give you my

answer...it stands for degenerative disk disease and it is basically exactly

what it sounds like. All my lumbar disk are severly degerated and believe

me it hurts! Try doing a search on that and see if you come up with more

info.

Hi Lori,

I fractured T12 about 13 yrs. ago and now have stenosis also. I have had the

shots and damn near killed me. Never numbed my back or my mind. Would never

have them again. Wanted to do Botox shots and I refused them. Don't want

anymore needles in my back. They didn't help me one iota either. Never again.

I think we all tend to think " painkillers " when we are in pain, and they aren't

always the only answer, nor are they always the best answer.

Degenerative Disk Disease is the same thing as losing the shock absorbers on

your car. Let's say you can't fix the shock absorbers. What could you do to

make riding in a car more comfortable?

Painkillers would help, but so would a lot of other things. Sitting on a very

good padded seat would help. And for DDD, sitting on one or even two egg crate

pillows does wonders.

Varying your position would help. For DDD, that means pacing yourself in terms

of position. Don't sit in the same position for long, or stand for long. 30

minutes is definitely long enough. Every hour or two, lay down for 30-60

minutes to get all pressure off your spine.

If you're really good about it, and lay down for an hour, then get up for an

hour, then down for an hour, etc., you'd be amazed at how much better you feel.

Anti-inflammatories also help. I can't tell you why, only that they do.

Learning relaxation therapies to practice while you're laying down will have a

positive effect after you've gotten up.

Reframing, or learning how to define your pain differently, is another technique

that will help it seem better. There are more, but this is an example of how

you can put several things togther and get off the " Pain train " so that's not

all you're thinking in terms of.

And I can tell you, when you realize you have control over your pain, and not

the opposite, it feels so good!!!

Hugs
