Courage, thank you for posting this. I was wondering how she is doing.

It's 12:30 AM here. I just got home from the hospital. My darling daughter

is taking the midnight to 10:00 AM shift and then I go back. It sounds like

we'll be bringing Mom home tomorrow. Hospice is delivering a hospital bed,

commode, and some other stuff tomorrow. After that, it is all in God's

hands.

As usual, I have a question. What can they give Mom for pain? The muscle

spasms in her neck have been excruciating at times. The hospital is using a

" lydoderm " (sp?) patch, but the lady from hospice ran through the list of

meds they use for pain and almost all of them were on the LBD " no no " list.

-- Update from Ron

Hi Everyone,

Just had a quick chat with Ron. His mom is hanging in there. Doctors are

giving her blood thinners but they aren't working just yet. The doctors

told Ron that his mom is going to be in the hospital for a while. He's

hoping to move his mom to that other hospital that is more knowledgeable

about LBD. I've encouraged Ron to get some good food into him and some

decent sleep because he sounds like he's got a massive cold. I'm sure we

will all keep him and his mom in our thoughts and prayers.

Gladys,

So glad to hear you will be bring your Mom home with Hospice tomorrow. It will

save a lot of running.

What is happening with your foster child through all of this.

I looked but didn't see anything for muscle spasms. I was going to run a

" search " in the messages and see if there is anything else in there.

Wish I had some answers. I am sitting here wondering what Acupuncture would do?

It might help but it would probably be out of pocket. I have heard people use

it for lots of stuff and I have only hear good things.

I have never done it myself.

Hugs,

Gladys,

You might want to got to Yahoo and post in " search " for " muscle spasms. " There

were 94 messages that talked about them. some duplicates but there were a couple

ideas in there.

But what was there, also, were three links to sites that had lot of info about

them, that you might be interested in reading. Dehydration was one problem. I

also remember when I had leg cramps from running on the Racquetball courts, I

could come off and take a Lethicin and (it is good for the brain.) my cramping

would go away in very little time. And I never went back to cramping even when

I didn't use Lethicin anymore.. I remember when I was pregnant I use to get

them bad too. Maybe I should have drank more water than I did.

Don't know if this helps but thought I would send it. And it does seen there

are natural meds that might help.

A couple of ideas for the muscle spasms

1. MSM cream rub it gently in or aspercreme

2. very gentle massage -I think the touch helps

3. heat wraps- like for sports injury

ask the hospice nurse to ask a sports clinic for other ideas

These don't replace pain killers but may help lessen the pain

Hi,

I sometimes get those horrible leg cramps in the middle of the night....

sometimes even my feet get cramped.  A friend recommended taking potassium

gluconate tablets - and I do take them - when I remember - I am getting them

less  (don't know if it's the pill or an issue of mind-over-matter).

Regards,

Helene

Thermacare makes patches that heat up and one side attaches to clothing, so it

stays in place.  They work really well for a good 8 hours, and you can buy them

in different sizes/shapes for the parts of the body that you need them for (i.e.

back, stomach, etc.).

A happy and healthy new year to all that celebrate Rosh Hashanah!  I have the

feast cooked and ready to go to Mom's later today.

Dr. Gott's column has said that manypeople have drank dill pickle juice when

having leg cramps and have gotten relief.  Also said Gatorade helps.  I think

dehydration is part of it.  I have had leg cramps for years and have to get up

to walk them off, then get back in bed only to have them start again.  Some have

used the soap under the sheets, but that didn't work for me.  It's always worse

when I have walked a lot, especially on cement, gone up and down on a stepladder,

etc., so I wonder if it takes something out of the body.
