Guest guest
when i get anxious i can't eat...guess i'm just the oppsosite. i can be hungry too...almost to the point of having an ache-ey empty feeling...but if i try and eat when i'm anxious the food usually gets stuck after the first couple of bites. also i am healing from a surgery...(long time open wound...very slow healing) and i notice i can take in the same amount of calories and still am losing weight...i wonder how many calories you burn trying to heal? its been a month and a half and i have lost 16 pounds since the surgery....weird,,,since my weight hasnt budged either way in like 2 years. Guest guest
For me because I need to eat with mt pills and take then 8 times a day. I feel like i am constantly eating. Sometimes I eat when I am bored, but I try to remind myself that it is only like another hour before I need to eat again to take my meds. I have also been on drugs, steroids are the worst for me, last Christmas when my ex- fiance and I were together, we had Christmas eve dinner at my one grandmothers house and the next day dinner a my family's house, his families house, and one of his grandparents... I can honestly say I ate at least two to three helping of everything and I was still hungry. That is probably the worse it has been but on these steroids I always feel hungy. I try to fool myself by drinking water, but that only holds out so olng! And about the weight gain, since this time last year until this past August, I have gained about 25-30 pounds... Since August I have been forcing myself to only eat 1200 calories, the least any dietician would suggest so you can still get the nutrients.... Since August I have still gained about 4-6 more.... Norma, you aren't alone... These problems effect every system in your body from your nerves, to digestive, to your skin ( mine tends to be super dry, but someone else said they had to wash their fact like 6 times a day)..... I have tried finding foods that take a long time to eats and are relatively low in calories... Like If I cut up and apple by hand then eat it slice by sclice, it takes me about 15 minutes... And that is a lot better than the amount of Twinkies or cake you can eat in 15 minutes! Hope my weight gain helped! Bekkah
Guest guest
<G> Lorieann, Give me your surgeons numer.... Losing 16 # sounds just like what I need now... Yeah, the pain, and the open wound, but I would lose weight. On a more serious note, you burn a rediculous number of calorise when you are healing or sick... My brother two years ago had his tonsils, adenoids, and tubes put in his ears.... He was 20 years old and about6'3 " , 250 (Built like a football player). Between what ehe ate at the hospital, pretty well cleaned his tray and asked for night time snacks of cheese and crackers and cookies. And what we brought him in from fast food places, the boy did nothing but eat. Not to mention what his friends snuck in... He lost 8 pounds while he wsa in the hospital for 4 days! Think about it this way, you could have this surgical problem, and be gaining weight! Bekkah

Guest guest
Extraneous Text deleted by Moderator Janine I am with you! I have gained nearly 30 punds since the beginning of the year. I used to be a dancer and swimmer so I always had to be conscious about my weight... When I was 115# (keep in mind that was high school when I was dancing or swimming 6 hours a day), I thought I would die if I hit 120#. Now at 165# and 5'7 " and only gaining more weight, 170 and even 180# doesn't seem that bad.. Funny how pain seems to change your perspective. Guest guest
Hi Norma, Sometimes I find myself in the same situation. I can go from one extreme to the other of not wanting to eat anything. When I'm doing the grazing thing, as I call it, I try to keep healthy foods available. Otherwise I'll go for the ice cream, cookies, and candy. I try to keep things like grapes, carrots, apples etc. around. Lately my comfort food has been peanut butter and jelly. Oh well..... Luckily these things don't last too long. Kathleen in N.C. Guest guest
Hi Bekkah and group, Yes, you are so right, my weight was always a big issue to me, now the pain has taken over and wanting to get better, my weight is at the bottom of my list....it is odd how i used to be devestated if i could not do my treadmill 2x day, and now, it is the furthest thing from my mind, as i know, it only caused me much more pain.... Not that i am happy to hear that your injections hurt, but, they treated me as i was very unusal in the fact that they killed me, so i dont feel so alone now. Or like i am a big baby and cannot take any kind of pain. This doc was rough and did not have an ounce of compassion, he said to me, its really nothing...i would love to get ahold of one of those injections and give him one myslef....let him see how they are just NOTHING....the smuck, i should report him for not using the betadine, they did not even have any there, it was only alcohol pads, and he did not even use those everytime....he was very lazy and rough, i did not like him at all.....maybe i will report him....i should i know, but, i hate to hurt people....but, i could get an infection from my skin not being perpared right....what jerks....thanks for writing back...and sharing your experince with me...janine
Guest guest
Okay, Janine, I think we all try to be nice people, but by not reporting him you could potenetially hurt 10s of 100s of othe patients... Lets say nothing bad happens with you long term. Just a little more pain, but lets say the next person ends up with a muscular infection, which is so easy to get into the blood stream, and dies of a septic infection. Lets say it is a single mother of four kids... How horrible would you feel if you read that in the paper and know you could have done something to prevent it! I know this has to be your decision, but we patients give doctors all the power and becuase we treat them holier than thou, we often end up getting stepped on. As patients we need to look out for each other... Bekkah
Guest guest
Soome fruits are very high in suragem and wil produce a sugar high that when it comes down, you want more food. Eating lower sugar fruits can help, as can eating raw veggies. Dix lorieann wrote: have noticed that eating fruit when i am hungry always makes me even hungrier...you ever had that happen?
