> I'm just curious. How many of you have a pet?

Hi Dix,

I *SO* agree with you!! We(I) were looking on line, our local

shelter has some pics of pets they have for adoption on line. I had

my son and Hunny look at the pics seperately, and asked them to pick

out 3 , Well there was one we all picked, so we went for a visit the

next day. This 1 year old Cattahoula leopard hound stole our hearts.

He had had a hard time of it for the first year, he was found running

loose in Santa Cruz, and had been adopted out previously to a couple

who, unfortunately had little experience with dogs. She wanted

something to accompany her on a walk once or twice a day, then leave

him in a kennel. We also assume that a man did some terrible things

to him at some point in his young life, as he has a strong reaction to

some.

Well, My Hunny had never had a dog before, didn't particularly want

one either, but I think he did it to pacify me. Well, Guess who

bonded-BIG TIME! LOL He came named, Jimi Hendrix (Hunny plays

guitar:) Jimi is like our second kid here. He goes on Vacations with

us when we can bring him. Or we take him to the Doggie resort in the

sierras (my folks house- Acres of running room) He sleeps in our

room, and when Hunny is out of bed, he crawls in with me. When I am

not feeling well, he will just lay with me on the bed, he won't even

bother me to go potty, he will wait for Daddy or my son to come home.

He will fetch a stick for as long as you are willing to throw it. He

plays dead, rolls over, swims,*body surfs* and even lets my 2 y/o niece

play crack the whip hanging onto his tail. He has become my best

friend and a member of our family. I know I am happier, less lonely,

and feel safer with him.

There is no better feeling than having a pet, and with all the

shelters so full, there is no reason to go anywhere else. It is very

rewarding to rescue an animal.

Blessed be, and hello to Bobo!! Lori in California

> Research shows that stroking a dog or cat can reduce your blood

pressure, bring stress levels down, and even help lessen pain.

> And then there are the cute little tricks they do to amuse us.

> After our last dog - my soul mate - had to be put to sleep, I

thought I'd never want another one, because I couldn't love another

one. And I wasn't sure I was up to taking care of a dog, much less

myself.

> But I found myself wanting that little dog, who gave

unconditional love and made me feel better on the worst of days.

> So we found Bobo, a 9 lb., Maltese-poodle mix. He's got me all

figured out! When I'm having a bad day, he'll get in bed with me, lay

quietly by my side, and now and then, give me a kiss.

> When I'm having a good day, he's running around the back yard,

getting into mischief, and making me laugh. He loves squeak toys -

and of course, amuses himself with them during the best parts of any

TV show or movie we've rented!

> We still have to go through obedience training - something I'm

not looking forward to.

> But I'm glad we decided to get another dog. Every day, he

reminds me that to someone, I'm special. Every day, he gives me

unconditional love. And every day, I hurt a little less because he's

here.

> If you haven't considered getting a pet, or have been thinking,

but can't make up your mind, there are a lot of animal rescue shelters

where they have all kinds of pets, many of whom are already trained.

> And there are trainers who will come to your house to help you

train your dog for special purposes - whether it's getting your meds,

knowing how to push the phone over and press 1 (which you've

programmed for 911), or helping you in other ways.

> I even tell Bobo my problems. He doesn't seem to mind listening

to me tell him about my pain, and then I don't have to tell someone

else. He doesn't mind if I cry a little into his fur, and always

gives me a kiss to make it better. And he makes me laugh.

> Thanks Bobo.

> Hugs,

Dix, I have three dogs and they keep me going some days while Mike is

at work. We have his dog, Roxy (a lab/retriever mix who is almost 12

now), Dakota (my doggie, solid black German Shepherd who is 8 now) he

alerts me to my asthma, never trained to just picked up on it...he is

soooo emphathetic to my health and just amazes me how much so. He

has helped me get up when I fall, when crying quietly he will come

and lay his head on the bed and lick my hand (which he never does

otherwise, i trained him NOT to...but, he knows what momma needs), he

also can make me smile when I am determined NOT to. LOL

We also have my daughters dog, Whiskey Petey (aka petey mouse, the

peepster, pimple...etc) he is a miniature dachshund and weighs about

12 lbs now...he has become Mikes doggie fast, he just loves when

Daddy comes home!!! When he is cold, which is often, he will snuggle

under Mikes shirt to warm up and peek his head out the top...just

adorable!!!!! He is our little guy and has come soooo far since I

moved here in April. He was a nervous, scared, barked and bit anyone

he just decided not to like (unlike Dakota who jus tknows who is

threatening to his momma or daddy or human sis).

Since being here he has gained weight (needed too) his coat is

fantastic again, doesn't bark much at all and does NOT bite

anymore...even the ones he would previously bite he has decided to

like. Being in a quiet and loving home has done wonders!!! He gives

back sooo much.

Roxy and Dakota are my babies too of course...love to get in the

floor and lay beside them or coax them on the bed and snuggle with my

big four legged kiddos, they are wonderful and don't know what I

would do without them!

Our 'blended' family gets along and at the top of the chain is of

course THE CAT! lol We have a 12 (soon to be 13) Main Coon Cat,

Disney that rules the roost!! He will come and find me during the

day, just to make sure I'm around and will get his loving for the day

then lay on the end of the bed. If ya ignore him, or he thinks you

are...he will let ya have it...MEOW MEOW at the top of his lungs

until you give him the respect he thinks he deserves. LOL funny boy!

LOL

So, my dogs (and the cat too i guess) keeps me going and make me get

up when i don't feel like it and walk them or just give them a hug

and kiss.

Anyone else??

Hi Dixie,

I have Toxalot, my kitty. She right now is

demanding that I attend to her by turning on the

water in the bathroom sink. She will then take

her bloody time drinking from the tap, and I must

of course hold court.

Yeah, I wouldn't give her up for anything. She's

pure love in my life.

Warmly, Jeannie

We have 2 dogs and a cat. Yes they are very comforting and quite

entertaining. I love all 3 of them dearly. They are all very sensitive to my

" bad days " well the puppy is learning to be.

Hi Bekkah

Rufus is about 8 months old and weighs almost 60 pounds. The vet said he is

probably a full bred German Wire-haired Pointer. Rufus was at our gate back

in April half-starved and pitiful.

Our older dog Cuddles has been mothering him and training him especially if

we ask her to take Rufus out to pee etc. You should see her hustle him

outside it is a sight to behold. Actually he has been house-broken for

several months now.

He certainly has given Cuddles a new lease on life. She was starting to act

like an old dog until Rufus came along. Well the Rimadyl has helped her

also.

Hi there,I have a short question. Did anyone here ever have an EN at the calf? I heard this is unusual and so far I also never had it there in the past but now I do have it at my left calf. So I´m a little confused and worry if I´m wrong and it is something else. But well, I´m pretty sure it is EN.

Thanks for reading this here.

Take care,

Hi Lilian,Sorry to hear you are so ill. With all due respect, your DR. is wrong. About half the cases of EN do involve joint pains. And that all over achy feeling you describe is called malaise.Have you been put on a course of antibiotics? You might have an infection that is triggering the EN. Strep is the most common one and it can't be tested properly except by a blood test--not a swab test. I am guessing you spent a lot of time laying down when you had the back surgery. That could be what helped the EN. Leg elevation and bed rest were the treatments they used to give those with EN in the days before meds like prednisone. In those days, bed rest meant weeks of rest. I know how frustrating EN is. I had it for 41 yrs. I've been in remission for the past 3 yrs. Not sure what the trigger was--just thrilled to be free of it for now.

Hoping it doesn't return. I wasn't able to work when I had EN, so I have no pension to speak of. It was not considered to be a disability in those days--since nothing could be found wrong. Even today they don't consider EN a disease--although they may in the future. They still consider it a symptom. Hope you feel better soon.Love,http://poems2order.wordpress.com/Please enter Erythema Nodosum.........Thanks!

Jeri,I haven't noticed any reaction regarding my contacts and solution.  I have noticed a HUGE difference when I do not eat gluten, and stay away from any synthetic hormones (including the ones in soy milk.)

Hope that helps!bethany

Can contact lenses or contact lense solution trigger EN?

Thanks Bethany. I'm still trying to figure out the trigger for my 15 year old daughter. This support group has been so helpful. I appreciate everyone's input. To: erythema_nodosum_Group Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2012 5:51 PM Subject: Re: Question

Gluten Free has liberated me as well.Last week I was flying from Denver to California sitting next to a man and we were talking, the subject turned to health and I told him of my journey with Hashimotos. He told me his wife and mother had Hashimotos. Then I asked if they had ever had EN. He didn't know what that was, when I explained what it was he was dumbfounded. His wife and mother both have it. I told him since going gluten free I haven'thad an outbreak. He wrote down everything. And his family is now going gluten free. For those who don't know of Hashimotos it is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid is attacked. The root of EN is autoimmune. Autoimmune issues are greatly relieved through gluten free diet.best, ML Gemmill Gluten free has caused me to stay EN free as wellChantellePs- its good that you are thinking and trying to figure things outSent from my iPhone Thanks Bethany. Hi Louise,What an amazing story! There is no knowing how many people will be impacted for the better by sharing what works for you. The internet seems to be abuzz with talk of going gluten free. There is a gluten free bakery not far from my house so there has to be a large enough customer base. I certainly think going gluten free is a far better option than taking drugs with horrible side effects. And even if gluten sensitivity doesn't stop your EN or help your auto immune issues, it can't hurt in any way.Love,http://poems2order.wordpress.com/Please enter Erythema Nodosum.........Thanks!
