My father is visually impaired due to diabetes. Does anyone know of a way he

might be able to enjoy books, magazines or TV. Nothing more can be done for

his eyes. He is 72 & retired and on a limited budget. Wish there is come SC

department that could help.

I need to ask him about books-on-tape. He misses the TV more. He can hear it

but not see it..

I hope the library(s) in SC will be helpful to you for audio books.

I've been listening to audiobooks from the Public Library in Houston/

County for the past three years. They have a website (as so many libraries

must I suppose) which allows me to search for and put holds on such a variety

of books, new/old, fiction and non-fiction, old radio shows, biographies.

Now I can enjoy my hour or more commute to work of morning and evening, and

my time doing a lot of routine chores that allow me to listen and learn with

the audio tapes.

My mother contacted the Nashville Library and became enrolled with the

Library for the Blind which supplied her with a machine and a constant supply

of audio books preselected for her general preferences which she enjoyed very

much.

Such joy and with no expense. I hope it will be available to your father.

You could record some for him or if you read aloud to him record as you go

and he could enjoy when you are not there. I would also check out 1/2

price bookstores for tapes. As for tv you might see if you could rent a big

screen tv and see if that helps.

My library has books on tape...maybe yours does too. Also check with your

local blind organization...they have a books on tape library and they'll loan

you a recording machine for free so you can record your own. Sorry, I don't

remembe the name of the organization...maybe Meni remembers. She recorded a

book for a former list member last year. Vicki
