Guest guest
Thanks , you are right, I almost lost Jim. If it's not one thing, it is another. I was thinking a UTI, because of the extreme confusion. I knew there was something not right and I'm glad to have found it fast enough. I called paramedics at 2:30AM when Jim was very weak and extrememly disoriented on Monday. I am so glad I bring him home from the nh 3 and a half days out of the week to observe him. Thanks for mentioning the specialists that can help in this area, I will look into it. This is far too serious and I'm not sure a lot of people on this site are aware of lack of sodium. We all know about dehydration, but sodium is so tabu on food these days with all the talk of the natural sodium in foods. I just want to make everyone aware to look for this too if their LO is displaying extreme confusion, it's not always due to a UTI. Jim does not drink coffee or drinks with caffeine, so I don't know of any diuretics if any that he might be taking. The Doritos sound good too! ummmmmm, ummmmmm Unfortunately for me, I don't have a lack of soduim. I have plenty of fluid retention. I will try to stay away and only give to Jim. Yeah, right! Salted Nuts would be good too, but Jim has had Diverticulitis before and has to lay off nuts and seeds and things like that. As always, you're so helpful......................Jan epthompson wrote: Low sodium levels in the blood are serious business. It's called hyponatremia, and it can kill. Fortunately, the treatment is *delicious*. I'm particularly fond of Doritos. Salted nuts are a good source, too - rich in " good fat " , salty, mmmmmmn. Diuretics can cause this problem, too - some of them work by causing you to shed sodium. Specialist care from a nephrologist, endocrinologist or internist with an interest in fluid management might be helpful if this persists. Welcome to LBDcaregivers.
