Guest guest
Great post Kristy.... My ES has wandered, but not too often, and it has been a long while. But, when she did wander, I got lots of gray hairs, as the moments were shear panic and enough to make my heart stop. Here is one picture of her location when we found her [her brother was 'keeping an eye' on her] and one other time, she wandered into the corn field next to our property and that was scary as we had no where to know where she was [as it is a 60 acre field] http://farm1.static.flickr.com/72/159074165_c796229e6b.jpg I looked into caine companions at that point, as I thought a dog would be my best protector for where we life. We have Jack 's, but thy are not trained to stay with a child. We never put our name on a list, as by the time she was old enough [i think they have to be five] her wandering days were few and far between. I know now there is a product that is a GPS that helps locate children......don't know too much about it, but have seen it on the lists. Have a great day.... Guest guest
That had to scare the Cr*P out of you. Pardon the expression but WOW!!! I go to mommy events and there are new locators out there and I guess I will be paying more attention to those in the future. Truett is only 7 months old but he is motoring around on the floor more effieciently everyday. Usually backwards but he has made it to other rooms. So it is quickly approaching. Thanks for sharing Subject: Re: 31 for 21: The Wandering Gene To: MosaicDS Date: Thursday, October 16, 2008, 1:17 PM Great post Kristy.... Guest guest
Abbi is our little wanderer! When she was in pre-school, she slipped out of the classroom's OUTSIDE door while her teachers were working with other students (7 students, 3 teachers). The door did not have an alarm on it, but it had a " trick " handle that the kids could not operate (except my Abbi!). She was halfway across a 100 acre field behind the school when a maintenance worker spotted her and sprinted to catch her. Her teachers were frantic! They could not find her in the room our in the hallways. Abbi could not tell the maintenance worker which class she was in and he wasn't sure she didn't belong to one of the homes near the school. Finally one of her teachers glanced outside and saw her. We had to fight with the school principal to get an alarm on the door. Our elementary school had no problem adding these to her classroom thankfully. Abbi is 7 and still hasn't grown out of it! We're afraid to leave her with babysitters or friends because they just don't understand - no matter how many times we say " don't take your eyes off her! " She is a little Houdini. Guest guest
yep! Hannah too! when she was 4 after her IV port was removed we drove to Florida to celibrate her remission and 4th birthday over Easter and while at one beach she was walking along beside me and we were flying a kite and I looked up then down to hold her hand again and she was GONE!!! talk about panic!! I called her her dad brother and grandfathers called and looked for her.. this one lady said she is over here.....Hannah walked back and I hugged her then said you DO NOT EVER leave my side or daddy's side when at a crowded place EVER!! she said with a pouty lip...... I was looking for shells and nobody wanted to go with me so I went to get my shells all by myself see!! and she had a handfull of very pretty shells indeed! we all learned a valuable lesson that day! she still at 8 years old likes to walk ahead or go off to see things and has no real fears.. this scares me to death!! Holly, Mom to Hannah 8 MDS/MTDS and Blake 16 mild ADHD. we are currently looking into mild epilepsy issues with Hannah. I was told that DS and MDS kids/adults have a higher rate of epilepsy that is highly treatable and Hannah's would be treated with NO medication since hers is mild or 'absent' and only seems to happen while she sleeps causing no damage, just headaches as an 'aura' before or after. she is also showing signs of mild neuropathy and this can be either side effect after a seizure or late term side effects from chemotherapy. so she is undergoing several tests now and when i have answers I will let you all know. thanks! Guest guest
Hi ....it did. She opened the window and climbed out. For us, the biggest time of wandering was from when she started walking at 15months....she just went. She loved to roam, but hit a peak around 3 to 4 years old. One slip away in a mall and from that point forward she was strapped in a stroller, as I could not trust her [even when she promised she'd stay right by me! lol!!!] It stopped around 5. If it didn't I would purchase one of those GPS things. I love your son's name..... 31 for 21: The Wandering Gene Today I am not featuring a particular person the way I have been. Guest guest
She crawled out the window, but opening it first...pulled a chair over to it to do it. Her brother was much more conscientious about watching her after that. 31 for 21: The Wandering Gene Today I am not featuring a particular person the way I have been.
