Guest guest
Hi everyone... I have just returned from a week with my mum and dad..and the last time i was up with them was only just 3 months ago, and what a HUGE change. In that 3 months, dad has lost mobility, and has moved from being upstairs, down to sleeping on his electric bed downstairs. Having a mobility scooter to get him mobile outside the house, and needing to have a wheelchair inside. He has exercises to do to get his legs moving, but just standing exhausts him.. ANyways...i thought I would ask mum to get me a list of the medication, for all you medical buffs out there. :-) The list mum gave me was from March, and she just added little comments about things..there are a few things that have changed...so here goes...hope you all have a cuppa or something to eat while reading.. :-) Zolidex (Inj) Hormone therapy - he had this monthly, but has now become ammune to it. He also used to have regular psa readings, but they dont give them to him anymore, because the number is too high, and would not be encouraging at all.. Zometa 4mg - Bone Fusion - MOnthly Dexamethasone 1mg ta - was taking up to 18 mg a day, but is now down to 3 daily) Imovane 7.5mg - sleeping tab - not using anymore... Triazolam 250mcg - sleeping tab M-Eslon 10 mg (Slow Release) - Morphine 90ms x 3 daily Ordine 10mg (liquid morphine for breakthrough pain) - 2 mls every 3 hours Codiene Phosphate - not using Domperidone - Not using Paradex - only occasionally Flusemide - 40 mg - for Fluid - Lymphoedema in legs) - 1daily Neo Naclex - 2.5mg - for High blood pressure - 2daily Motilium - 10mg - for nausea - when required Voltaren - 50 mg - twice daily when required Potassium Chloride - 600mg - for low potassium twice daily... All i can say is...thank goodness mum has a list. She also has a notebook, which she writes down what dad has and when..and its been interesting to see when the pain has been bad...or whatever...seeing how much medication he takes... So there ya go...if anyone thought that was helpful, i would love to hear...to me its all gobbledeegoop..hehehehe... btw...it was lovely to just hug my dad for real !! take care all...and my hugs to you all.. Guest guest
Louisa Just before I go to bed Thanks for the list and the update. I'll study the list in a bit more detail and work out a reply that makes sense, others may wish to add comments in the meantime You know we all feel for you and your family and it's amazing how mum finds the strength to cope. You sound to be a great support to your dad. Best wishes to you all
Guest guest
Louisa I have had a chat with my pharmacy technician daughter - don't expect university stuff. We have commented on the PCa drugs the others are trying to help the symptoms or as you have indicated Best wishes Zolidex (Inj) Hormone therapy - he had this monthly, but has now become ammune to it. He also used to have regular psa readings, but they dont give them to him anymore, because the number is too high, and would not be encouraging at all.[ Metcalf] The problem with Zolidex is that although it stops the testes making testosterone but the body can find other ways of making it. Many scientists have understood that derivitives of testosterone are one of the growth factors for PCa - Casodex is often used in conjunction with Zolidex if the PSA starts rising. It would normally be kept up unless side effects have caused a revision medication. Sammy and others are now questioning the mechanics of this but again this may be another face of the disease that requires different treatment. Zometa 4mg - Bone Fusion - MOnthly[ Metcalf] This is to help his bones Dexamethasone 1mg ta - was taking up to 18 mg a day, but is now down to 3 daily)[ Metcalf] We think this is either for nausea or steroidal assistance Imovane 7.5mg - sleeping tab - not using anymore...
