Time to start medicine?

I have not posted often, but I am very confused and could use some

shared experience that you have had with your LO and medication for

hallucinations. Mom was diagnosed with LBD first in April 2006 and

has steadily and rapidly declined physically and cognitively since

that time. 4 weeks ago she began experiencing hallucinations that

were frightening to her (the other " monkeys on the wall " just

interested her and kept her entertained for periods of time). The

recent paranoia and hallucinations are causing her to be afraid at

night. She is in an excellant ALF and has a doctor who will work

with me on medication. Her motto has been " less is better " and Mom

is not on any medication except for a baby asprin every day. But

now she thinks she is being raped and impregnated and everyone knows

and is talking about her. This and other frightening illusions have

made our lives a nightmare recently.

I have read the files, but am confused about what medications I

should consider for her. The doctor wanted to prescribe risperdol

in a small dose, but that is on the list of " bad medicines " so I

asked her to hold off until I did more research.

Can anyone help me with your experience for your LO? What would be

good to start with, if anything? Or do I just hire a sitter to be

with her at night, and hope for the best? She can barely function

physically anymore because of the Parkinsonlike symptoms and I

believe if I do anything to affect that we will have to move her to

skilled nursing where I will lose my doctor and any control I have

over decisions.

Thanks for your help, sorry for the long post.

W. daughter of Hazel, diagnosed w LBD in April 2006, serious

decline in all functions as of this date.
