Guest guest
Salli, I'm here with you....or at least will be after Thanksgiving. Yes, I got that ominous feeling in the pit of my stomach reading your post. Be as absolutely prepared as you can. As for Enrique pulling himself together before leaving her office....He is not stupid. He is aware he is different from the others. He does not wish to be teased or picked on. He will use all of his strength and ability to try to blend in at school. He will also release all of that pent up stress and energy at home where he knows he is loved and safe. I have read this information more than once about AS and HFA kids. Also I would recommend writing down as much as you can about his obsession's, etc. to show them the extent of his problems. You may also want to request that they observe him for x period of time outside of the school to see the real him. Hopefully he won't keep holding it together when they are there. Wishing much more success than I had at the old school!! Guest guest
The school department is not qualified to make a diagnosis on Enrique. Have you had a private psychologist evaluated him and make the diagnosis? That's what I would do first and foremost. That way there will be no question regarding Angel's involvement and it may also effect what services can be offered to him. I correct my last post...you do have outside, private evaluations with a diagnosis declared. I don't really see the problem then. If they don't agree then there has to be an independent evaluation done, like Sue said. Did she just forget? Did they toss his whole file in that infamous circular file? Salli

THEY may decide that Enrique has no particular problems (uh, you guys who have been here any length of time, what is your opinion on the idea that Enrique has no problems?) but did not doubt me and she would come regardless. UPS man delivers package: Salli: Would you attend my son's IEP on January 28? UPS man: Um, what time would that be? Salli: 3:30 p.m. UPS man: Uh, yeah, if I work fast that day, I can probably be finished by then. Salli: Thanks. Moment of silence. UPS man looks thoughtful. Then... UPS man: Any special reason you're asking? And what's an IEP? Salli
