Guest guest
cookerling4@...: I understand some reasons for not undergoing the Radical surgery, however in my case and many others the cancer was so advanced that to do nothing meant certain spreading and eventual early death. So, please don't use blanket statements, it really hurts your cause for not doing the surgery at all. I know there are those who have other options, some of us don't. Guest guest
Brad and You are both right but your statements are limited.. We have various groups of disease Brad rightly says that there are men who are too advanced to have "curative treatment" rightly says there are men who would be best advised to go for a cure but surgery is not the only option. Terry would say rightly that some men, and thre could be more than we think could monitor the progress in an active manner and not take action other than diet change etc. I still think all groups would be better knowing that they have the potential for treatment or lifestyle changes and a major part of research should be better testing beyond the initial PSA to determine tumour agressiveness. We had an excellent talk at the Leeds group from Prof Alan White of Leeds Metropalitan University who had done some excellent research on men's health and how men dealt with EBRT v Brachytherapy. This wasn't quantitative - ie medical measurements - it was qualitative - ie results of discussions with focus groups etc. Men unsurprisingly are very poor and getting to the doctors. They are like the man who was stood on his own at the pearly gates under the sign (non hen pecked men). a new arrival left the queue (line) under the hen pecked men sign and asked the man how come you are by this gate? - he said "My wife sent me". Ask any man why he is at the doctor and often he will say "My wife sent me!" ... enough said, thanks to the ladies many prostate cancers are found. The impact too is not just on us but very much on our partners and families.
Guest guest
Ok. All well and good. However, the bottom line is still: "Some 10,000 men die of prostate cancer each year. " [ Guardian quoting UK stats ] 'Go figure it' as Popeye used to say. Sammy. Check out Guardian Unlimited | The Guardian | Prostate test 'all but useless' At long last the prostate 'scam' has been rumbled. As reported in the Guardian.
