I know that must be very hard to handle emotionally, however, you are doing a great job by reaching out to people who will support you! I have found this to be an incredible way to feel supported, and I know you will too! Looking forward tohearing your story, Ammey > > Hello > My name is Dan . I am 40yr and right now I am married. Guest guest
Hi Dan sorry you had to get MS to meet us. I live in Indiana with my wife Judy and we have 2 boy's and I am also 42. My wife loves the outlet mall in your town while we travel to Florida. I have been going to a local MS meeting here in Indiana also and I hope you have a good turnout at your meetings. I was wondering with you being a fireman does the heat from a fire cause you any trouble? Heat is my biggest enemy. What kind of troubles do you have with your MS? Guest guest
WELCOME DAN, It is good to meet you and I hope you find what you are looking for here. I hope your meeting goes well. You may want to find someone to share the responsiblty of the group with. My husband knows I have MS but that is about all he really knows or wants to know. He wants me to be able to take care of the house and his projects and his problems most of which are health related. There are days when I cannot take care of myself let alone anything else. This is very hard for him. Sometimes I rant and vent about him but on the other hand I understand. I tend to spoil the men in my life starting with my father when I was a child. Now I cannot do that everyday and it is hard for me and it is hard for my husband. And then he also has to deal with his own illness and the greiving for what he has lost due to it. By the way we are 61. thank you for listening. LOVE AND HAPPINESS; FLOWERS AND BUTTERFLIESLYNN New to Group HelloMy name is Dan . I am 40yr and right now I am married. We have 4 kids between us. Guest guest
HI Jill Yes it does take practice learning to love yourself again. For everyone. It seems we are taught or we teach our self that to love ourself is to be self centered or egotistical. But perhaps a better way to word it is to have compassion for our self. We have so much compassion for others, most of us, but boy if we do one little thing slightly wrong we pour on the self blame. If you look up perfectionism you will see how overly conscientious people, people who are overly responsible, just beat them selves up. Most fibro people are that way I think . Overly responsible, overly caring, overly conscientious. Do you? Well, if your favorite young person made a mistake how would your treat them? That is how we need to treat us. I think your schedule is a wonderful idea. It creates order and and a sense of purpose in our life I think. It works for me I know that. Have a great day Jill. rosemarie > > > > > I am still learning to do the loving myself just as I am. Guest guest
Hello everyone. I am new to this group and wanted to introduce myself, my name is Jewel. I was diognosed with fibro almost 2 years ago, I battle depression and am having some kind of thyroid issue to I guess. I have been to two drs so far but doesnt seem to matter how often I go nothing seems to ever help me. I have been on many different medicines and for whatever reason, I stay in constant pain and havent had a good nights sleep in what seems like forever. I am currently looking for a new Dr. because I feel like my Dr. doesnt listen and half the time I feel like she just doesnt believe me. I am so tired all the time and I just want to find a medicine that will actually help me WITHOUT making me put on all the weight lol. I am so frusterated with people (even Drs.) that say this is not real, I feel so helpless and just want to find answers. I am hoping being in a group with others who know how I feel will help. Guest guest
Welcome Jewel, has good information for you. I've had to look into the library for information about this disorder - I have the tender points, fatigue, fibro-flares (increased pain and fatigue and depression. insomnia, and a bunch of other symptoms. I have had to do a self-diagnosis and came up with FM/ CFS/ ME. Which translates to Fibromyalgia, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and Myofacial pains. What seems to cause my depression is not being believed when I say I'm hurting. It's a pretty typical experience for us. I've been disbelieved by family, my ex-husband (a doctor), other physicians, supposed friends. When I deal with the anger about it, then I have less stress. I have lost jobs behind it, I have lost relationships behind it, I have had to stop college classes toward a degree behind it. On the plus side, I have learned how to befriend myself and how to advocate for myself and others with this complex disorder. I pray frequently for people with this and try to find out what I can do for myself. I get answers here and I can keep on going. Guest guest
HI Jewel: I hear you girl. Boy have I been there. Well I think you will find help on this list for sure. We have all been in your shoes at one time or another. We usually suggest the web site fibrofix.com because it has a lot of good stuff on there. I do not agree with all of it but she has done a lot of research and it helps a lot of people. Also, many of us go on low carb diets and that seems to help us a lot. I know personally that carbs make me feel inflamed and my pain worsens considerably. Recently I was diagnosed with Celiac and that explains that problem for sure. Also, we find natural remedies, many of us do, some of us do not, some of us mix them up with whatever the doctor gives us that works. There is no such thing as one size fits all on this group. We all need our own recipe for what works for us. So, keep checking with us, try out diet, sleeping suggestions etc. For example, once I began to use a sleeping mask I have slept 60 percent better than before that. Also, I sleep with a hot water bottle at my feet and that keeps my legs and feet from cramping and I do not get restless leg syndrome then either. I exercise every day, even if its only lightly, and this keeps my systems all circulating because if I do not exercise I feel just like I seize up and swell up and feel groggy all the time. Even just walking helps that. I take digestive enzymes every time I eat. I eat only small meals 6 times a day. I put raw vegetables in every meal even if its only a little bit like half a cucumber, or a carrot, but preferably a sald, or steamed asparagus. Something is necessary to give us our antioxidants etc. Suggestions like this are good to try out and see what works for you. Little by little you will see a difference. The other biggie for most of us seems to be some sort of spiritual support. Either you can go to your church, or a 12 step group, or a meditation group or a yoga group, or a therapy group. Something that supports you where you feel like you are not alone and nobody believes you. Feeling that is isolating and causes depression. You need support and help and people who believe in you. They are out there and so I God, or a higher power or the universal source of love. Whatever you call God it is a source of support and prayer will help you no matter what you call it. I hope this helps you. rosemarie > > > > > Hello everyone. I am new to this group and wanted to introduce myself, my name > is Jewel. Guest guest
Welcome@! New to group Hello all, I am new to this group and want to learn more about fibromyalgia. I have not been diagnosed, am having somr really weird aches and pains that have gotten progressively worse over the last few years. When the weird symptom began, I thought it may be due to hormonal changes, as I am now over 50. I would wake throughout the night and feel a tingly sensation in my abdomin and extremities. Almost like when you hit your funny bone kind of sensation. I also had a horrible dental experience in 2006 while having amalgms removed. I had a panic attack and strained the muscle and tendons in my jaw and the dentst injected my trigeminal nerve. Afterwards I had horrific TMJ pain. Every cell in my body felt stressed and my scalp, tongue and nose burned. I lost 15 pounds within 2 months. During this time I also developed frozen shoulder syndrom. I saw several doctors and had many tests, was put on different drug therapiesand saw a Physical Therapist. Eventually,I was refered to a Nutritionist who put me on a special diet and supplementation program and eventually I weaned myself off the meds and felt much better. It took 7 months. Now I am having some of the symptoms of the TMJ as well as now my body has a burning, achey, tingling sensations just about daily. I am afraid of being diagnosed, but I suppose I need to know what is happening to me so I can address it. I don't want to be drugged, but I also can't continue with these progressively worsening sensations. I have to take ibuprofen and tylenol to get some short lived relief. My hands, feet, scalp and forehead throbs. My muscles have knots in them. My daughter is a massage therapist and tried to work them out. I would appreciate any recommendations from anyone in this group. Thank you and I look forward to learning and sharing. Vicki P
