I use Taste of the Wild, the pacific salmon since my Lhasa is allergic to just about everything ;-) the vet wanted to give her allergy shots every month and I disagree with giving a shot to the dog just to feed her what she is allergic to. Its easier on her and my pocket book to change her diet LOL

"Best" Dog Food For An Allergic Dog?

Friday June 18, 2010

Judy Hedding, About.com Guide to Phoenix, Arizona, has a 16-month old dog who is dealing with skin and intestinal problems after switching to an adult diet. Itchy skin and diarrhea are two common signs seen with allergies to food in pets.

The trouble is finding out exactly what ingredient(s) are causing the problem.

Judy did a food trial which is temporarily simplifying the diet down to two ingredients. In this case, chicken and rice. (NOTE: this is not a complete diet for long term health, just a short-term food trial.) Ingredients are then added to see if signs reappear. While the skin issues cleared up, the intestinal ones did not. It was determined that her dog was allergic to chicken, rice, or both ingredients.

Since then, she has had good success using different ingredients, rabbit and potato. Good news is that after a week, things are looking good. Bad news is, her dog doesn't like this food. Read full post from Judy.

So the question is...What foods have you tried that worked for your allergic dog? Can you offer Judy some advice?

Yup, I agree, that changing our pets diet is better than shots or meds. I took the shots 40 years ago. Then quit, when I didn't think they were helping. Took them for six months every week. Instead, I started talking to my body: "I love cats and dogs, so body you can't make me sick when I am around them. I refuse to give up my animals. It worked. I had the highest rating for that allergy and I never gave up my babies. When they crossed over, more were sent to me."

When I started getting indigestion, way back there, I started paying attention to what I was eating, that hurt me. No indigestion now.

Anyway, Thanks For Sharing, . :-)
