I don't know if they are SSRIs or not but my doc says it is probably the Elavil, Remaron, Wellbutrin. Also the postmenopausal thing and the neuropathy. I have talked to them about it. Seems they can really offer no advice.

<< I know that even in the medical field this has not been addressed or at the most someone might know about it. There are some remedies for diabetic men who have trouble with sex. But does anyone know what can help a female with this problem? Boy that took a lot of nerve to ask. Debbie >>Debbie,Are you taking an SSRI, like Prozac or Paxil or Zoloft by any chance? Until something goes wrong in this area, you don't realize how positive a role sexual feelings play in one's life, whether or not one is sexually active.Nan

Debbie,

Wellbutrin is supposed to have very minimal sexual side effects. It is usually

prescribed to people who don’t tolerate other antidepressants too well. In fact,

I have a friend who takes Wellbutrin to combat the sexual side effects of

Prozac. I can’t tell you much

about the other ones though. I’m sorry you’re having difficulties. I’m on

Prozac and have had to deal with similar problems. L

Tammy, My psych says Wellbutrin can hinder you reaching an orgasm. The other type of sexual side effects is minimal. Oh well was just wondering if anyone had a solution.

Thanks I will check it out.

Debbie, the book I was referring to is:Okay, so I don't have a headache: what I learned (and what you need to know) about PMS, hormones, stress, menopause--and sex, by Ferrare, Weis (editor), published by St. 's PressThis book is written by a woman who had major problems with sexual desire, I believe with the onset of menopause. She went through a couple of years seeking treatment, if I remember correctly, but eventually did get some help, and wrote this book hoping other women could get the help they needed more quickly.I looked up Remeron on the web. It is not an SSRI, and isn't as likely to cause sexual side effects. It can be associated with increased cholesterol and triglycerides, however.Good luck!Nan

,

Good luck with the pump. It never really helped my incontinence ( BTW what is the difference between stress incontinence and ordinary incontinence?, When I pee myself it's just plain old fashioned incontinence as far as I am concerned ) I say this because I just managed to get my post RP medical notes today and my uro said " He is still significantly concerned by what I feel is minor stress incontinence and he has not been as diligent as he should have been in carrying out his pelvic floor exercises"

These guys should be made to sample their own medicine for a day or two.

This from a guy who didn't give me any choices as far as treatment was concerned even though he knew ( and I didn't because it was pre-internet days ) that I was a good candidate for WW or seeds with myT2C Gleason 6 23mm prostate. When I asked him later why he didn't suggest less invasive treatment for my PCa he said it was difficult for him to tell me about treatments his hospital didn't do. Lots of ethics there then! Because I had the temerity to question him about this I see he has written in my notes " He has unfortunately gained a great deal of information from the internet and has read extensively on the subject of prostate cancer. His wife is also anxious and this I am sure adds to his difficulties"

WOW! Well I apologise for trying to gain information that may help me out of this mess this uro has left me in. I'm also sorry that my wife is anxious. How inconsiderate of her.

And this little gem: "I reviewed him 18 months after his radical prostatectomy and we have had our usual lengthy discussion"

The longest consultation I have ever had with this guy is around 10 minutes, max.

Compare this to men I have accompanied to the Cookridge Hospital where the doc there has spent a minimum 50 minutes explaining their procedure. Excellent Hospital.

I urge every newly diagnosed man to seek as much information as possible from wherever they can. The drug companies are already planning to ban medical information from the internet I hear after they have had the natural supplements banned.

Sorry! Just blowing off steam after reading through my medical notes.

Just to say a Hospital near us has started a trial "Men's health clinic" Maureen and myself went the other day and came back with a ED pump which could be supplemented later. The specialist nurse says that this will most probably help my stress incontinence too. I am on Casodex so there is still a little feeling left.

Will keep you updated

PS Please if you are discussing the detail of ED please make sure that this is in the title - this gives the option to delete it before looking at it
