Guest guest
When my Dr said he watned em to see a neurologist, I did call one. The office visits were $300 plus any tests, and the minimus would an MRI, CAT scan, spinal tap and extensive blood work. Financially this just isn't possible for me so I called my aunt who is, shall we say, the 'alternative therapy guru' for just about anything. She gave me a website and I have been reading it. It also lists Vitamine d to help, along with a few other things, and some diet changes. The site is www.mercola.com and there is quite a bit of stuff there. I am not sure how to take a lot fo it. I have never been one to trust the holistic intead of traditional medicine route like she is, but it is at least some interesting reading. Kerri Vitamin D "I SAW ON THE TODAY SHOW THIS MORNING THAT WE SHOULD BE TAKING AT LEAST 800-1000 IU A DAY. THAT IT ALSO WILL HELP IN PREVENTING CANCER AND THEY ALSO SAID SOMETHING ABOUT PREVENTING MS SYMPTONS. I WILL GO ON THE TODAY SHOW SITE TO MAKE SURE AND LET YOU KNOW IF THERE IS MORE. Guest guest
Question for ya all! Does Vitamin D go thru your system (the excess that is) or is it all absorbed??? I have been doing some research on vitamins & of course have an MS moment here & can't remember about vitamin D. Thanks! Be well my friends! Guest guest
I take a lot of supplements now. I saw a nutritionist and she made sure I was getting enough of things like magnesium, fish oil, etc. She never mentioned vit d although I am sure it is in my multiple. That said, when I do not take them I notice a diff in my energy level n fogginess. The other thing to remember when u start a vit u need to take reliably at first or u won't get the benefit if u forget a dose here n there. Hello Everyone, I was wondering about this. I have been reading alot about Vitamin D and how it can help prevent disease and help to void the flu. However, I was wondering if any of you are taking Vitamin D3 supplements, and I was wondering how much you are taking and if it indeed is making you feel any better? Guest guest
My doctor has put me on vit D3 because in a blood test it was very low. Within 3 months it went up to normal range. They now put a test for D3 on every single blood test me and my family get now. Like they always check your white blood count, and your red blood count, well now they also check your Vitamin D3. I do not know what changed but apparently if you do not have enough there are serious problems in the body. You can probably find out by looking up what the problems are if yu do not have enough. I never felt a difference from taking it I don¹t think. I am not sure its to make you feel better, but more to prevent problems later. > > > > > I take a lot of supplements now. Guest guest
Hi Carol Ann, My doctor found that I was deficient in Vitamin D a few months back. I took prescription strength vitamin for 5 or 6 weeks and they checked it again. Although it improved, I was still deficient... so I took the prescription for another 5 or 6 weeks. I was deficient again, took it for the 3rd time and tomorrow I have to go back in to the lab to see if it's in the normal range yet. I'll let you know, but I've heard that it's common in fibro. Guest guest
Hi Carol Ann - I just found out last week that I am Vitamin Deficient and started taking Prescription Vitamin D - 100,000 IU 2X per Week. The odd thing is I was taking a vitamin D supplement of 1,000 IU daily and I did have a diet high in Vitamin D so it was kind of puzzling to me that this would come back deficient but it explained a lot of other symptoms I was having with the extreme sleepiness beyond what I felt with my FM. It has only been one week for me and I have not noticed a difference after being pumped with 100,000 extra IU of Vitamin D but my doctor said it would take about a month and then they would retest me. I battle with insomnia but once I fall asleep, I don't seem to want to wake up, like once I fell asleep, which was not until 3 AM this morning, I slept until 5:30 PM this evening straight through. I have heard this is becoming more common in Fibro and patients who have MS. Hope that helps! > > > > Subject: Vitamin D > To: fibromyalgiacured > Date: Thursday, October 22, 2009, 8:46 AM > > > Â > > > > > > > Hello Everyone, > > I was wondering about this. Guest guest
Hi Traci, Yes my doctor also found out that I was deficient in Vitamin D which is why I have been taking it. Since taking it though I have read all kinds of different things on the Internet about Vitamin D. Mostly good things. Alot of people on the Internet seem to think that D3 is the best form of Vitamin D. But I'm not an expert on supplements, so I don't really know which one is best to take. My doctor started me out on regular Vitamin D, but I switched it to the D3. I know this time of year its hard for any of us to get much Vitamin D unless one lives where its Sunny most of the time. Living in Europe,, lol we dont get to see the Sun all that often. If your levels are still low again then you might want to take Magnesium and Fish Oil supplements, because I have read that Magnesium and Omega 3 Fish oil supplements helps a person absorb Vitamin D better. Let me know how your appointment goes. Carol Ann To: fibromyalgiacured From: tracijo505@... Guest guest
Wow Traci,, The Fifth time on this prescription is abit ridiculous. That definately tells me that they are simply not giving you enough. I take Vitamin D3 every single day, not once or twice a week. Can you tell me how much you are taking? Guest guest
And is that the same amount of Units as you were taking before? With you taking it twice a week which is 100,000 a week. That equals out to be just over 14,700 a day. So that should fix the defiency for sure. And if it doesnt then somethings definately not right. Im wondering if your body is having a hard time absorbing the Vitamin D....??? This certainly makes me want to go get my levels checked again now, because they havent been rechecked since they found out that I was deficient too. I absolutely feel lousy today, my chest hurts alot today, and I feel like my breathing is kind of shallow. The doctors here on post just dont seem to care at all. And I can't go to the Germans without a referral unless I go to the damn emergency room. My arms feel very weak. I feel like I have no energy at all. I don't understand it. I take all kinds of vitamins daily, faithfully too. You would think that I would be bouncing off the walls, but I'm not. I'm not overweight, so I can't say its from that. Ive even been eating alot more spinach lately, trying to get a boost, but nothing seems to be helping. I'm so fed up with this. I feel like Ive tried everything, and nothing helps. Sorry I know I sound like a miserable old bat tonight, just getting it off of my chest is all. Two more weeks, and my husband will be back from Iraq. I can not wait! I really could use the extra hand around here. I'm having a very hard time keeping up with the housework and laundry. I have to scream at my kids to get them to do anything around here, and to be honest I dont have the energy to be yelling at anyone anymore. lol sound abit pathetic tonight don't I........ ahahahahhaha oh well at least I can still laugh at my own misery. Guest guest
Yes, it's the same as the last prescription... only now I take it twice a week. I agree with you and I read somewhere long ago that fibro patients do no absorb needed vitamins! Maybe that's why you're so tired... I've been telling my doctor for months I'm more tired than ever and now I'm thinking it's probably the Vit D deficiency! I'm so glad for you that your hubby will be home soon! And I know what you mean with the kids and chores... Ugh! LOL, someday we'll laugh about it though because they'll have their own messy kids!!! Take care! I did a lot of research on the taking of large does of vitamin D, and found out there is so much controversy about it. I don't fear natural D, but only get about 1000 to 1200 units a day between cod liver oil, and dry D3 capsules. I take natural A, and E as they all work together. I have not been tested for D levels. Dr Mercola has a lot to say about it in his website newsletter, but not sure everything he says is gospel. C.
Guest guest
I noticed in the shares, that we FM/CFS people have different symptoms and strength of symptoms as different times, so needing to keep adjusting supplements is so reasonable. Good luck with this round Traci. I was able by the kindness of a friend to get some Coconut oil and I will begin taking that Monday.
