Since that article hit the newsstand about ten days ago, I've been inundated with emails from people who want to know if what the article claims is true: Can coconut oil really "cure" your hypothyroidism and cause rapid weight loss? Or is it too good to be true marketing hype? I asked holistic physician and thyroid practitioner Dr. Ken Woliner to respond to this question for us in this special issue. Guest guest
That is very interesting indeed. When I was 19, I was starting to go through menapose and put on a hormone pill for 3 months and then everything was normal again. Then I started with cysts on my ovaries off and on. I wieghed 100lbs and was told that my thyroid was on the low side but not enough to warrant taking anything. My thyroid went up and down like a yo-yo for years and then over 10 years ago I had a hysterectomy...I started to gain wieght and feel so tired all the time.....they just put it down to the operation and put me on premarin. After I took sick with MS, and a new doctor, he noticed my thryoid was high and put me on synthriod...he couldn't believe that no one bothered to do anything about it even if it was a little off. I wonder too...how many women have had the same problem and the connection Gloria wrote: Pam and all----Pay particular attention to "Dr. Peat on Thyroid Disease". I am living documented proof of the Estrogen-Progesterone-Thyroid connection. If you will remember, I posted a long letter to this site about how, when I was in my early 30's, I was diagnosed by a female oncologist as having virtually NO progesterone left in my body, over-production of estrogen (one regulates the other). This is the point when I started displaying all the signs of HYPERthyroidism (first stages of Hashimoto's), then, a few years down the road, a hysterectomy, and then HYPOthyroidism. I believe this to be ONE of the main connections in thyroid disease. Whether it holds true for women across the board, I do not know.
