Guest guest
I have had a similar patient who at this time , is lost to follow up (never returned ....yet). All I have is what I investigated- no results in actual treatment. So what I found, was trying supplementation of Calcium carbonate, 500 mg before every meal. My goal was to absorb the bile and even having her get a Rx for cholestyramine to impact this patients chronic diarrhea and in conjunction heal the mucosa from 16 years of irritable bowel. Issue with high intake of calcium carb is kidney stones - so make sure to include increased water.Other suggestions at the time were the use of soluble fiber- attracts water and turns to gel during digestion. This slows digestion: marshmallow, psyllium seed , oat fiber, slippery elm, banana powder etc. Pectin possibly. She also has tried a variety of diet changes , all to no avail. Would love to know if anyone else has positively impacted this condition.LuckTo: ukherbal-list From: c@...Date: Mon, 19 Dec 2011 10:15:11 +0000Subject: bile acid malabsorption hello all has anyone any experience of treating bile acid malabsorption please. This is unresponsive to gluten/dairy free diet, and is in a relatively fit man of 52 with an excellent diet. He has had it for probably 5-6 years and has just had the SeHcat test to diagnose it. He has been offered cholestyramine, but really doesn't want to take it, is willing to eat a reduced fat diet and wondered if there was anything herbal that could be offered. I have been treating him for some time but could never get rid of the constant diarrhoea he has. He has been on probiotics for some time too. I guess most herbal digestives and liver herbs will be encouraging bile production which wouldn't be too helpful. Any ideas please? many thanks -- Herbert Herbalist and allergy therapist 15 Queens St Spooner Row Norfolk NR18 9JU 01953 603056 www.christineherbert.co.uk
