Guest guest
Hi ,It's my pleasure to add your story to our "Cured Member Files"!And yes, the connection between Prilosec and EN has been documented.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/8804848Love,http://poems2order.wordpress.com/Please enter Erythema Nodosum.........Thanks!Donation InformationFrom: Kelley Subject: PRILOSEC AND ENTo: erythema_nodosum_Group Date: Friday, October 2, 2009, 9:47 AM I stopped taking prilosec last year after reading a post about a suspition someone had that Prilosec was a trigger. After 4 years of outbreaks every June/July/August - I am happy to say that I have had NO OUTBREAK THIS YEAR and I suspect it could be that I am no longer taking PRILOSEC. Guest guest
, Hi , I was wondering I have been on Prilosec every since it was on the market . This is the first time I have had EN but I have had it now for 13 weeks and cant seem to shake it? I have been taking Prilosec the whole time, I have too. Do you know how long this women was taking it? I would have thought I would have had EN before now but maybe something has changed in the make-up of the Prilosec. What do you think ? They have not been able to find any other reason for it. Guest guest
Weighing in: I had been on Prilosec for heartburn daily for a couple of years but quit Prilosec about a month back and since then my nodules (that started in April 09) have been healing since but very very slowly. I also quit a low-dose antibiotic (Minocycline) to which I had attributed the improvement but couldn't be sure since I quit both at the same time. My doc seemed skeptical it was either and suggested I start them up again one by one to determine any correlation. Based on the recent activity here I will start my antibiotic again today and see what happens. Even with the greatly-improved nodules, my one knee and other foot joints continue to ache terribly and it's difficult to walk or stand for long. I feel like a crippled old woman and I look like one too! Thanks everyone who posts, bed rest is a fairly lonesome activity and I appreciate the dialog a lot. Kimberley in CA EN Onset April '09, persists today. Guest guest
Hi , The study did not mention how long the patient was on omeprazole. I would also guess that if it were causing an EN reaction, you'd have shown it earlier. I don't think the make up of Prilosec has changed as the active ingredient is omeprazole and that is the triggering factor. You can try a different brand of omeprazole if you want to be positive and rule it out. About half of us don't know what triggers our EN. Love, idio. EN '68 in Remission now. > > , > > Hi , I was wondering I have been on Prilosec every since it was on the market .. Guest guest
Hi all, I'd like to comment on this one. I started taking Omeprazole in July of 2008 (prescribed by Primary Care Physician). I got EN for the first time February 6-7 2009. In July of 2009 the Gastroenterologist switched the medication to another simply because she likes it better - new one is Pantoprazole. My EN is now 95% into remission. It is possible that the drug was responsible, but is it not also possible that the underlying reason for taking the medication is responsible? That maybe the the Omeprazole does not " cure " the underlying condition (probably acid reflux/heartburn/etc.) properly, and another medication does? Just some food for thought. When I was in the hospital in February with EN, they took me off HCTZ for two reasons. My blood pressure was quite low, and HCTZ is on the list of EN triggers. Again - maybe the underlying condition (borderline high blood pressure) and not the drug? Any thoughts on this??
