I'm out of the challenge :( I don't want to be but I missed too many days. When your car breaks down a person gets stressed having to deal with mechanics and whatnot. And today I found out I will be carless for much longer. The mechanic couldn't really find out what was wrong with and said "if you were looking for an excuse to get a new car, this is it" and mechanics usually want to take your money, so when they tell you that you know your in trouble. Of course when i'm determined to make my exercise routine work out, something's gotta get in the way.

For day 5, I didn't do Tae-Bo (again). I walked for an hour. I am fighting

those irrational " failure " feelings I am having for missing Tae-Bo 2 days in a

row. It's so silly for me to feel that way. I have exercised 5 days in a row.

That is a huge accomplishment for me. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were hour

walks along with Tae-Bo, Thursday and Friday were hour walks. I need to quit

being so " all or nothing " about everything. I set these impossible standards for

myself and end up driving myself crazy. Does anyone else do this?

On another note, my cold has moved into my chest (ugh) and I am feeling

pretty lousy. I think I'll keep up with the walking until I feel a little

better,

then it's back to boot camp :)

I don't know what every body else thinks, but as far as I am concerned, you are not behind. We all have the tendency when we get stressed that the first thing we give up is our exercise, when that is probably the most important thing we need to help shore us up for the stress. If it weren't for doing tae bo regularly, I do not know how I would have gotten through the stress I have had the past 9 months or so. So do not despair, step in where you are, even if it means only 5 minutes today, and just carry on a few extra days after the official challenge ends.

It is a bummer to be without a car. Are there any blessings you can find in the situation? More time at home, the incentive to walk to and from the corner store that you used to drive to, etc. I know where I live, there is no public transportation, and that being carless is a huge hinderance. I have an old van that only gets used for long trips that I just loaned to a friend who is in your situation. Got any friends with an extra vehicle? I really hope that things look up for you soon. Delana.

Sorry to hear about your car. I had a similar experience a few years

ago. Took my car in for what I thought was a simple problem but

after the mechanic looked it over he refused to fix it. He'd found a

bunch of problems and said that was just what he was looking for

specifically. He figured there was much more wrong with it and the

cost to fix, just what he'd already found, was greater than how much

the car was worth. I was 6 months pregnant at the time and already

had a 2 1/2 year old! We ended up trading in the old car and getting

a not quite as old (but long from new) " new " car. Hope you solve

your car problem. I'll send some good car vibes your way.

I am a recovering superwoman myself. Perfect is the enemy of good. We all have the tendency to look at what we are not doing or not doing well instead of focusing on our successes. We also set ourselves up for failure by setting goals that are too big. Baby steps are better and they build you up emotionally with each success. When I started, I considered doing any exercise, even 5 minutes, to be a success in rebuidling a long lost habit. Walking is good!!! 5 days of exercise is good!!! If you want to increase the intensity of the walk, put on a back pack with some books in it or use billy balls or hand weights. The challenge is really about getting in the habit of exercising daily, of putting yourself and you exercise first. Are you taking vitaminC and echinacea for your cold? some people also do well with the zinc supplements to heal faster. Hang in there, and praise yourself, you deserve it. Delana.

Please don't give up. Even though a few days were missed, you can

still jump right back in to the program and continue your progress.

There are days in all of our lives when stress and everyday life get

the best of us. Try and keep your head held high and do the best

you can. " A positive something is better than a negative nothing " .

Jump back in the program and work that stress into the ground.

Please don't feel like a failure. For you to get any type of exercise 5 days in a row with you having 3 small children is INCREDIBLE!!!! I know what you mean about standards though - if you don't do it exactly as you've pictured it "right" in your head, then you're a failure. It's not true. You are taking care of yourself and that's a wonderful and important thing.

I hope you feel better soon. It's a bummer when you want to workout but don't feel well enough to do so. I'll pray that you get over this cold quickly and that nobody else gets it!

Joan :-)

Walking for an hour is progress and " a step in the right

direction " . It is my opinion that not doing Tae-Bo and performing

another exercise or doing nothing at all is not failing. I, like

yourself, set unrealistic goals for myself. It got so bad that I

ended up in the hospital (mental ward) for two days only to learn

that I bring a lot of stress upon myself worrying about things that

don't matter. I have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety

Disorder (GAD). Currently I am on 150mg of Effexor XR (anti-

depressant medication). My psychiatrist told me I will more than

likely be on this medication for a very long time, if not the rest

of my life. I have taken on the attitude that if I can't do

everything I'd like to do in a day, then so be it. When I entered

this challenge I knew I would not make 21 straight days of Tae-Bo as

my body will not allow it. However, I know that taking a day off,

or two, and/or doing some other form of exercise will benefit me

more than pushing myself to the brink of exhaustion.

Being sick is also something that we have to deal with at our own

pace. It's not a sign of weakness nor should we worry about what

other people may think. Work on getting yourself better so that you

can excel during those days you feel 100%. Do what's best for you

and try not to meet the expectations of others. Your goals and

yours and not what other people think they should be.

OK. I've rambled on for long enough. Just know that we all support

you and hope you get better and continue with your exercise

regiment.

I've got to second this . Just jump in where you are at...you're not behind. It's so easy to let other things/people come ahead of our needs when we shouldn't. It's not going to be easy without a car but you not working out is honestly not going to get you a car.....keep it up! And let us know how things are going.

I love the way you think..."think of the blessings" I need to count them more often and yesterday I was thanking the Lord for all of them in my life yesterday. I need to do that on a daily basis and especially when things seem stressful.

Thanks!

lol thx. I guess I can find a blessing that this didn't happen in a time in my life when I have children! :) No money is something that can be fixed (albeit incredibly difficult without a car!) There are a few places near by that I can apply to but the odds of even getting an interview are slim... and they are all cashier type jobs, meaning I'll make $7/hr. Oh there I go complaining again! Grr!

Thx Dave. Now that my car is sitting in my parking lot and I'm done spending my days dealing with people who are trying to get me to pay for things that aren't wrong with it (i.e. new tires) I'm sure I will have more time (not less stress unfortunately!) to get at least some exercise in. For the last three days so much in our home has been neglected. There are no clean dishes, laundry and the house is just a trash heap. Its funny how big of a mess something like a car dying can make!

I hope I did not offend you in any way. Thinking about the guys and

Oh no Dave you didn't offend me at all. I've been a huge worrywort since the 1st grade and I don't really have a way of dealing with stress and anxiety. I have GAD (general anxiety disorder) so believe me when I say I'm doing a great job dealing considering! :) I appreciate your words and the fact you took the time to read about my troubles and reply that means a lot to me, trust me. Reading posts is calming and I'm very aware everyone deals differently and I like hearing the ways others deal with stress... I'm a very open minded person and try almost anything at least once!

I'm sending up the prayers for you, too, . I know it is a stressful time for you. Keep your head up and know that times will get better. Join in the challenge whenever you can. To me it is about not giving up even if I do not exercise or eat right all of the days of the challenge. Doing Tae Bo may help you burn off the stress of your situation as well as get clear. I also recommend that you focus your energy on getting a new car rather than thinking about not having a car because what we focus on is what we attract to ourselves. I am sending you a big HUG and knowing the best is in store for you, sister.

For day 5, I didn't do Tae-Bo (again). I walked for an hour. I am fighting those irrational "failure" feelings I am having for missing Tae-Bo 2 days in a row. It's so silly for me to feel that way. I have exercised 5 days in a row. That is a huge accomplishment for me. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday were hour walks along with Tae-Bo, Thursday and Friday were hour walks. I need to quit being so "all or nothing" about everything. I set these impossible standards for myself and end up driving myself crazy. Does anyone else do this? On another note, my cold has moved into my chest (ugh) and I am feeling pretty lousy. I think I'll keep up with the walking until I feel a little better, then it's back to boot camp :)

WAY TO GO, KERRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: RE: Re: Day 5 of 21

I'm a FLYbaby too! Thats where I got the idea for the stickers on the calendar. Taking babysteps to develop new healthy habits that we can stick with long term is what its all about with FLYlady and Tae Bo. Oh, and while I'm here, just measured and I've lost 2 inches off my waist (aka spare tire) and 1 off my hips. Woohoo!Kerry

Thanks Tyra! You are so right! I am totally looking at this all wrong. I need to think about getting a new car and how I'm going to get that new car. Step 1 find a job!

The mechanic couldn't really find out what was wrong with and said "if you were looking for an excuse to get a new car, this is it" and mechanics usually want to take your money, so when they tell you that you know your in trouble. Of course when i'm determined to make my exercise routine work out, something's gotta get in the way.> > > PS. ARGH! What am I going to do without a car!!!!!>

way to go!. Did not do tae bo yesterday, as it was family fun day and the vote was for bowling. Had a blast, and although it wasn't aerobic, it was great for the spirit and still worked a few muscles. Back to tae bo today. Delana.

I end up deleting about 90% of the daily reminder right now, I read all of the testimonials. I have been trying to incorporate one habit a month and also to stick with the suggestion that if something will take less than a minute, to do it now and not later. The biggest help is the reminder that I am not behind...Delana.

I amfar from participating in many of the suggested changes, but have beenslowly incorporating small steps and can see progress. You may want to checkit out. >>LOL, want to know what's funny? I did try it but quit because I didn't do it "perfectly." I think I'll go back to the site, really read it and do what you are doing- small steps :)As Deb has said: "Fitness is a journey and it begins with the first step.""This isn't about weight loss, it's about enlightenment" -

Good for you doing a workout anyway. That kind of day is usually a

total skip day. I don't have the Foundation workout. What exactly

is it?

What a wonderful weigh in! Congrats! I bet you're feeling inspired. That's a great way to do it.

Kids grow up way too fast! He's probably having a great time and giving very little thought to Mom! ;-)

I was down 5.2 pounds and met my 10% goal, finally. I am so excited. I feel really inspired right now. I went right back to Tae-Bo yesterday because I am feeling better. Usually, an illness sets me back weeks. Not this time :)I will pray for your little guy too, Joan. I know how hard it is to let go, even a little bit. They grow too fast :(As Deb has said: "Fitness is a journey and it begins with the first step.""This isn't about weight loss, it's about enlightenment" -
