Guest guest
Happy New Year All I'm trying to track down the origin of the " Echinacea mustn't be taken for more than 8 (or 6) weeks " myth. I know there was a German paper which showed a simple dose related curve showing white cell count increasing in a study which lasted for 8 weeks. At the end of the study the treatment with echinacea was stopped and the white blood-cell count returned to normal (baseline). There then was a review paper which concluded from a misreading of the previous paper that after 8 weeks of use echinacea caused the immune-system to decrease - and this is now in the public psyche! I thought I had both these papers, or at least the references in my files, but I've looked and looked to no avail. Can any one help me with some information? Thanks Graham White B.Sc. (Herb. Med.) Guest guest
Graham, I would ask Kerry Bone, he has done a lot of research on Echinacea to dispel such myths so he most likely has the references.
