Guest guest
WOW. This is such good news brian. I bet you have carb problems in your body too. There are so many of us that cannot digest certain carbs even though they are perfectly healthy foods, like rice, bread, oats etc. our digestive do not digest them, we build up toxins, we retain water, our waistline bloats up, we get tired, we are starving because we are not getting nutrition out of our food, then we begin to feel pain, and various symptoms. What a vicious cycle. Doing low carb is such a life save for those of us for whom this is true. Each person needs to check it out for their lifestyle. I know when I go off it I get the above happening and always wonder why I don¹t get it. I would prefer being vegetarian for a couple of reasons but when I do that I end up craving sugar really badly, then I eat something that is healthy but quite fattening , like nuts and chocolate chips with raisins in them. Whew. High high calories treat that is. So I gain weight and say its from vegetarianism but if I am honest with myself it is my cheats with the sugar cravings that gets me going. So, keep us posted on how you are doing brian. We appreciate your posts too. You are a walking success story. Sincerely, rosemarie > > > > > Thankyou Rosemary, > If the Atkins is good enough for you then its god enough for me lol > You talk a lot of sense in your posts and i accept you have checked this out > extensively:) > I,m on day 3 so far, my joints dont feel as swollen and my sinus's are only > half as bad, my headaches are starting to go now my sinus's are clearing ) > I was just a bit worried about the bad press Atkins got years ago but things > change. > > > http://www.simplytortoise.co.uk/ > > ________________________________ > From: Rosemarie Tropf <rosemarie@... <mailto:rosemarie%40intnet.net> > > To: fibromyalgiacured > <mailto:fibromyalgiacured%40yahoogroups.com> > Sent: Monday, 28 September, 2009 17:30:20 > Subject: Re: Atkins diet > > Hi : > I don¹t know if someone answered your questions below but I just read this > post. Guest guest
Yes, but how can that be true when thousands of people have been on this diet with no problem but they lose weight and they feel better. I respect him too but I have heard him say a few things I disagreed with. He is still an MD and he tends to go that direction sometimes rather than holistic. The only way protein can hurt you is if you do not have the enzymes to digest it. Also, you need to drink your water to detox the toxins that burn off. Also, everybody should be eating their vegetables also. Somebody on this list said that their low carb diet only allows a few vegetables but that is not true. You can have endless vegetables but that does not mean baked potato. A baked potato is not a true vegetable because it turns into a starch when cooked. When it is raw it is ok. Also, some fruit is allowed on low diet too. An apple a day is ok, but not a banana for example. A banana is extremely high in fruit sugar compared to other fruits. I have a daughter in law who is an athlete and eats vegetarian only. She had blood in her urine and he told her it was from protein because she is not eating enough food or enough protein. So she is now eating fish to make her kidneys function better. And that doctor is an MD also. So, I believe it is all about balance. I know some people on Atkins would go hog wild on cheese, bacon, and cold cuts which are full of nitrates and bad for your body period. But I do believe that cannot help if its true that cholesterol goes up from fatty meats like bacon and sausage. I think again, balance. If a person is eating 3 meals a day, cutting back on grains, breads and pastas with their vegetables and water there is no way you will get kidney damage. When a person is out of balance, is hogging down food because it tastes good, even if it low carb there can be out of balance problems with the body of course. I know that a high carb diet kills me. I have been practicing this type of diet for 20 years now and researching it because I too have been scared by these reports and I only have one kidney so you betcha I was concerned. There is a book called THE ENDOCRINE CONTROL DIET and it is written by two MDs. They tell you how diabetics and hypoglycemics and people who have weak pancreases will thrive on a low carb diet. This book was written in the 1980s so it might only be available in a library but int hat book there is a section where they talk to the doctor to help them understand why this low carb works on their patients. So, I love doctor OZ but he has to be way more specific about that for me to believe the way I have eaten for most of 20 years is harmful to me. But the rule we were told as kids still applies, eat your vegetables. rosemarie > > > > > > Yesterday Dr. Oz talked about high protein diets on his tv show. I get moderate protein, plenty of low carb vegetables, and lots of fats(meat fats, coconut oil, extra virgin olive oil, butter). Dr. Weston A. Price website has good info, also, the candidasupport yahoo group. C.

I thought you meant that for two meals one would have a total of either three cups salad or two cups of salad and one cup of other vegetable. Three cups total is not close to 5 1/2 cups. It is a little more (1/4 cup) than half. I am OK with the amounts either way, but I wanted to make sure that I did not misunderstand the amounts somehow. Guest guest
I have on my desk the New Diet Revolution book Vegetable amounts are at first 2 weeks of induction: No more than 20 gms of carb/ day. for 2 meals, 2 cups salad + 1c of other vegetable or 3 cups of salad. So that translates to leafy greens any kind, steamed or raw in the salad That's pretty easy to remember. The amount of vegetables to meet the RDA is also 5 1/2 cups, so this is still pretty close to optimal. and you get the nice crunch factor going. Later on you can add all sorts of vegetables and some fruits. All the meats, eggs, poultry and pure, natural fat (expeller pressed oils and butter which is not a transfat.). I can find the books at thrift stores or garage sales and of course I have access to the on-line support of the company. Guest guest
Yes I think this is all part of learning how to pick our way through the land mine field we call life. With all the pollutants in this world today I believe our immune systems are compromised and we have so many food and other things we can feel allergic too can¹t digest and make us sick whereas maybe 100 years ago it would not have made us feel sick because our immune systems were stronger. Its not easy but it is well worth the effort. Thanks for sharing Joanne. I think you help a lot of people on this list with your sharing. > > > > > You are so right Rosemarie.
