" > --Dale Gribble, from King Of The Hill I don't have the messages, but I do have some ideas for you Jacquie.. I was a daycare worker for 2 years, with viarying age groups. Here's some things I found that worked really well with the kids. Spotlight: grab a few flashlights and make teams. It is essentially Lazer Tag, minus the high cost. As the kids " spot " one another, they are out. The last person standing wins for the team, prizes for good spotmanship work bette than winner or loser prizes. Chalk Drawings: Take a large roll of butcher paper, and cut/tear it into lengths that the kids can lay down on. Let them trace each other, and then they draw portraits of each other...makes for lots of giggles...enourage silliness and originality. (this also doubles as a GREAT racial tolerance activity) Hand Turkeys: I'm certain all of us have made one of these. Trace the child's hand, and use various types of craft products to make it into a Turkey (great w/ Thanksgiving approachin) Candles: For the truly brave at heart, make candles. This is actually a great fave with Autie kids, as it is a very repetitive activity. Email me for full details, as they are long. This is obviously an outdoor activity, maybe you can trade it out with the kids playing spotlight...some make candles, some play the game. It is actually a safer activity then you think. " Stained Glass " windows: This on is good, and rather inexpensive. Go buy a bunck of inexpensive metal cookie cutters, and a couple of boxes of cheap crayons. Shave the crayons into like color bowls (red, green, etc) and have the kids make a single layer of shavings in the bottom of the cookie cutter. Bake in the oven on about 350 for 1 min...check every min thereafter if not melted. Let them cool, and pop gently out of the cookie cutters. With a sharp object, poke a hole and run a string of some sort thru the top to hang it by. You want to make sure the kids don't use too much shavings, or the hanging won't be transclusent. Sand Bottles: Remember those little bottles of colored sand you always admired? Really easy. This one is messy, and requires some pre prep, but it is a classic with kids, and it always produces great results, not matter how they do it. email me for detailed instructions. Well, if I think of more, I'll post them. I hope some of these help.
Guest guest
I didn't suggest anything before because I was completely stumped. But suddenly I have a lot of ideas. Do you remember the " Gods-eyes " that kids used to make back about 20 years ago? You take two Popsicle (or other kind) sticks and put them together like a cross. Then you weave the yarn around and around the four sticks making a very nice design. After you have gone through to the end of the sticks or as big as you want to make it, you tie it off. If you use multi-colored yarn or change colors frequently you will get an even nicer design. How about the Christmas Trees made from TV guides? Fold down each page of a TV guide and you have a large bushy x-mas tree to decorate with paint and glitter. Barney showed the kids how to make little " musical instruments " . I guess they could be considered like tambourines. You put some dried corn or rice or beans or similar dried food item on a paper plate. Then you staple another paper plate over it, making a " bubble " shape. Paint the paper plates and you have a shake-y thing that makes a lot of noise and should get back at any parents that left their NT kids with you! :-) Someone else suggested that you use paper plates to make masks. Barney also had an episode doing that. Actually it was that idea that got me remembering stuff we used to do. Good luck with this party. I cannot imagine how you got roped into this! :-) Smiles! 37 year old wife to , 41 Mom to: na-14-NT Marilla-8-Autistic Sherman-7-Autistic Greilyn-2-NT (so far) " It is never too late to start from where you are.
