Hidradenitis Suppurativa

Hi all,

I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me with this.  I've just been

contacted by a 30 year old woman suffering from 15 years of Hidradenitis

Suppurativa which is not being well controlled and is being referred to a

dermatologist to possibly have surgical removal of affected area - only 50%

chance success - other 50% occurs elsewhere.

I don't know much about the condition other than its a chronic inflammatory

condition affecting the skin at sites rich in apocrine glands (e.g. sweat,

mammary) of unknown cause - more common females, hereditary component.  Begins

after puberty with swelling and possible abcess and sinus formation - as with

this lady.  Some similarity to acne vulgaris - treatment with Dianette, surgery,

skin grafting.

She had some years of remittance whilst abroad and feels this may be stress

related.  Recurrance 1 year after birth of first child when returned to UK.  Has

had several courses of antibiotics when condition has appeared infected.

I wondered if anyone has treated this condition previously or had any ideas of

how best to progress.  The lady has tried several alternative treatments with

some short-lived success and I would like to give her a realistic idea of herbal

treatment outcome.

Any and all ideas very much welcomed,

Many thanks,
