Dear Sue,

All info and insights really gratefully received. She is now on Leonorus,

Valerian and Crataegus. If a mix will work how long do you think it would take?

I don't want to string her along with vague promises, and she keeps asking me

how soon she can expect to see results.

She has no sweats and is generally OK. Palpitations aren't severe but leave her

feeling 'weird'. Health and outlook fine, all was well before the coffee.

Hi Maggie, was just thinking about your posting again last night and

thought of one other important thing that I should have mentioned in my previous

posting. I saw one patient who I was treating for menopausal Sx a few years ago

- she had severe palpitations that had started suddenly in middle age,

accompanying drenching sweats and anxiety. All of these had been put down to the

perimenopause, but they really were extreme - and they didn't respond well to

herbs at all. I urged her to return to her GP as I thought she might be

hyperthyroid. Her GP was lovely and was happy to do quite exhaustive tests (I

think probably because this lady also had a fairly recent history of breast

cancer) - it turned out that she had an adrenal tumour, quite a rare condition.

She has now had successful tx for that. So that's another thing that worth

putting in the Differential even tho it is rare.

And sorry that my last posting was on such a personal note, but it's where most

of my experience of treating palpitations has come from.

best wishes

Hi Maggie

do you think she might be one of the significant minority whodon't

respond well or have side effects from valeriana? (is she an

ectomorph ;-) ? )why not try some other nervine/s ?

How about passiflora, it and anemone puls are all useful for palpitations.

What other issues does she have besides the presenting complaint? What

is her diet like?

I've been doing talks in adult learners week, and one of the things I

did my best to get accross is that herbs, unlike drugs, will not

generally over ride the general body condition, rather work as part of a

holistic (aargh, that poor misused word) strategy.

So Leonorus IS a specific, but, to me, that just means it is an integral

part of a more complicated prescription
