Welcome D.J. to our group. Sorry you had to join us with the diagnosis of

diabetes and all, but this is a really great group to come to. At the bottom

of this email there is an address to go to our public web site that has lots

of information. I would also like to add that what helped me right away was

reading as much as you can and join lots of email lists (although this IS the

best one to me). My favorite book by far is by Dr. Bernstein,

Normal Blood Sugars for Diabetics

<http://www.diabetes-normalsugars.com/index.shtml >

D.J. we had a chap in service with initials for his name, he was listed

as R. (only) B. (only), the chief called hime Ronly Bonly , he was

smart enough to respond.

You surely have fallen(no pun) in the clutches of the medical

fraternity. If you have pain there is a chemical remedy called DMSO I

used on various pains as aa penetrating rub on, it soaks into the skin.

I don't know if it is available in your area. look it up on the net.

Those of us vetted in diabetes found that starches and sugars raise your

blood sugars, bread, pasta and the like. You will need a meter and test

tapes to monitor your own sugar. See what your service will supply. Try

for under 100 morning fasting, and then lower your peaks about an hour

after meals. I dialog with diabetics. Sam in San Diego CA

Hi Vivian!

Welcome to a wonderful group of people! I was fortunate to get my approval

quickly, but I'm still wishing March 29th would hurry up, so I know how you

feel. I have this fear that I am going to get sick or something is going to

stop me from having the surgery next week.

You will get your date before you know it. Just keep calling and following

up on the progress. The squeaky wheel does get the oil (or the WLS) :-)

Hi Everyone!

My name is Vivian and I live just outside of

Baltimore. I'm new to this group. I've been lurking

for about two weeks and finally decided to take the

plunge.

I'm also new to the idea of bypass surgery. I spent a

long time debating the pros and cons, but now that I

have decided I want to go ahead, I'm anxious to get

the ball rolling. Unfortunately, I'm learning the

process doesn't move as quickly as I would like. In

fact, just making sure the surgeon got the referral

from my primary care physician was a real pain, and

all they had to do was fax the dang thing. So . . .

now I'm waiting for the surgeon to sign off on my

referral (indicate that I qualify) before I can get my

first appointment. They're telling me he's running

into May right about now. It sure makes it difficult

to try and make summer plans without knowing how fast

things will roll, or if they will roll at all.

Anyway, just wanted to say I'll be thinking of all the

people having surgery this week, and wishing them the

best of luck. Also, sorry to hear about your son

Debby. That's awful. I lost my sister to cancer

several years ago, and it sure wasn't fun.

Hi Vivian!

I'm Amy and I live up in ville but work in Downtown Baltimore. I had my

surgery October 18 last year.

Good luck with your WLS journey. It doesn't always move as quickly as we'd like

but once it gets going time will move by much faster.

Hi Laury,

Welcome to the group!!! You have a wonderful attitude. I've thought about

having surgery for almost 30 years and now at 47 am having it done. Next

Friday, to be exact :-) I wish I had decided sooner, but I believe timing

is everything and you WILL have your surgery at just the right time.

Glad to see you have come out of lurk mode. You will learn a lot here and

make some great friends, too!

Hi everyone,

I'm one of those " lurkers " mentioned. Please excuse me for not posting

sooner, but I like to get a feel for the culture of a group before I

butt in.

I'm 41, married mom of 2 teens 19 and 17 and live in Rhode Island. I've

been investigating weight loss surgery since a chance conversation at

work in September, when I discovered a co-worker had it done 15 years

ago and has kept off 187 pounds. She is a nice normal-sized person and I

was amazed, but didn't think it could apply to me. The thought kind of

stuck with me, and I started investigating. At my last physical I

consulted with my PCP about it, and she agreed it was something worth

investigating. Just two days later she called with the name of the local

expert in the lap RnY procedure, with her promise to support me.

I finally called his office 3 days ago, and his office instructed me to

call my insurance company for approval, which was immediately denied.

They " do not cover that procedure " . So now I have my appeal going before

a committee in May. I have to get my appeal together in the next week.

Your resources here have been invaluable!

My consternation knows no bounds. It took me months of picturing myself

having this sugery before I could get up the nerve to call the surgeon,

and when I do, I hit a brick wall. He is also booked solid through July.

I can't even make an appointment until I get insurance approval so now I

have to deal with the knowledge I'm going to be this size possibly for a

year or more. On the other hand I appreciate the chance to watch others

go before me, to learn what I can to improve my own chances for success.

Nice to meet you all!

Welcome to the group, Laury! I am fairly new myself. I know what you mean

about it taking a long time to finally call the doctor. I became interested in

the surgery after seeing Carnie on TV, and spent most of last year

considering my options. I joined TOPS one last time, and tried to lose on my

own, but I think my metabolism is just sooooo slow, that it's nearly impossible

without the surgery.

I'm sorry that you have hit the proverbial brick wall with your insurance

approval. Unfortunately, some of us have to jump through many hoops to make it

to their new life. This is just a temporary setback. I will say a prayer for

you to find success with your appeal. Have a good weekend.

I buried a dear friend that diet of brain cancer. She was so concerned with her weight that nearly everything she consumed had aspartame in it.... the oncologist even said that it was most likely the cause.

I avoid the stuff like the plague now.

The bad thing is that aspartame is being put into products and not always being labeled as being there. It's in over 9,000 products now worldwide. Things that you wouldn't expect like chewable meds like antacids, chewable vitamins, Wrigley's regular chewing gums, etc. It's even used as a filler in some tablets of prescription meds. There's a wealth of information on www.dorway.com. I just wish there was a way to educate the world on how dangerous this substance is...it has some truely frightening side effects...

Hi ....

Sorry to hear how badly it's been going for you....

You've come to the right place.. all kinds of good folks to help out and

listen...

We wont' be able to help a heck of a lot until you get your labs back.

Hopefully your doc has taken the tests that are needed to find out what's

going on with you...

TSH, Free T4 and Free T3 and hopefully, an antibody test....

When he or his nurse call you with the results... don't settle for

'normal' or 'close to normal'... ask for the numbers.. You'll want the

lab values and the lab ranges... then post the results here and we'll

give you a heads up on what it's looking like.

Do you have any thyroid disorder in your family, that you know of?

I'm Topper ().. A co-owner of this group (along with Feisty ).

I had RAI almost 14 years ago after going through thyroid storm.... it

totaled my thyroid and now I'm hypo, totally dependant on meds.

Glad that you've joined us...

I starte with the live series and it is still one of my favorite. Just keep at it and you will be able to do it. When I started I could only get through 10 minutes of the basic tape, but just kept adding a minute at a time and tried to keep my form for all moves, and now I can (almost) do 50-60 minute advanced workouts. Welcome to the group. Delana.

Carol,

You will find that this group has wonderful people to help encourage

and motivate you to set and accomplish goals. It's great that

another person has been inducted into the exhilerating world of Tae-

Bo. Stay positive and please do not get discouraged if you cannot

keep up with the Blanks crew. It is taking me a lot longer

than I thought to get all the kicks, punches and combinations down.

I won't even talk about balance as...well...I have very little.

With that said, welcome aboard and may you become a Tae-Boaholic

like the rest of us.

Carol,

Welcome and I congratulate for you taking the step to take care of you! I am the mother of two sons ages 4 and nearly 2 yrs. Tae bo is my lifeline, my time to focus on me. I have lost 15 lbs and several inches doing tae bo. But tae bo is now a way of life for me. I do it because it makes me feel so good about myself.

You are doing right by following your own inner knowing and sticking with the instructional video until you feel ready to move on to another video. You will not be a fat mom forever doing tae bo. Just keep at it and you WILL lose weight! Welcome, again and keep us posted on your success!
