Guest guest
Western energetic herbal medicine workshop – With Hedley Four seasons, four elements, four humours, four temperaments Loudwater farm, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire 11.9.11 I am delighted to confirm that Hedley - one of the UK's most inspiring and celebrated Herbal Teachers -will be leading a one day workshop for herbalists and herbal medicine students this September. This is a rare opportunity to immerse oneself in the study of the traditional energetic practice of Western herbalism, in a beautiful peaceful setting beside the River Chess. Here is how describes the day's workshop: " It all starts with the four seasons; Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter The observation that the earth went through cycles and noticing that people went through similar cycles in their lives and that different people thrived in different seasons Air, Fire, Earth, Water the four elements correspond to the 4 seasons We are born with our full compliment of vitality, a gift of love from our parents and their ancestors. As we grow older we spend it. Children have excess vitality and may spend it freely. Elders have low vitality and must husband it carefully but have often acquired a sort of toughness that stands them in good stead. Children have strong vitality but it is weakly grounded. The vitality of Elders is well grounded but weak. The vital spirit is warm and damp. Babies are warm and damp. We say they are dominated by the Sanguine (or Airy) temperament. People who stay warm and damp carry that Sanguine temperament through their lives. As we grow older we start to dry out and become more fiery - the time of Adolescence and of the Choleric humour. And so it goes on through life. Our healing strategies changing according to the time of life and to the dominant temperament of our patients. " will discuss the different strategies; herbal, dietary and life style and show you how these may be applied to modern herbal practice.
