The starchy veggies (lima beans, peas, corn, potatoes, winter squash, parsnips, etc.) were points on 1-2-3 as well, I think. The two biggies I can think of that suddenly got points are carrots and onions--both high in sugar. Most veggies are still 0 points. > Lyn, I do have a great recipe for pumpkin soup but > I'll have to locate it. > It was only 2 pts per serving with the 123 system, > but I am unsure if this > will change with the winning points system. Guest guest
Just so you guys know, according to my journal online at the WW website, raw carrots 1 cup are still worth 0 points. If you have more than 1 cup then it's like .5 or something. Yet cooked carrots are a point, what is up with that???? in VT
Guest guest
My guess: you can fit a lot more carrots in a cup cooked than raw. > Just so you guys know, according to my journal online at the WW > website, raw > carrots 1 cup are still worth 0 points. It's simpler than that. If you look at a calorie counter or something similar, you'll see that cooked vegetables almost always have more calories/fat/etc. than raw veggies. Vegetables have a very high water content, and a lot of the water cooks out when you cook them. So if you take 1 c. of raw veggies, you might only get 3/4 c., or 1/2 c. (or in the case of spinach, a few tablespoonsful) of cooked veggies. The calories are more concentrated then. ===== -- Wren-Moyer mwrenmoyer@..., mwrenmoyer@... __________________________________________________
Guest guest
You know, I am so confused by what people are seeing at the online journals compared to what the WW book says. I don't get it! I think it's too inconsistent. Why doesn't WW update their program material to be consistent with the online journals and calculators. I try to follow the program by my materials, and then I'll learn that someone's online journal says count 2 servings of V8 as a point. What gives! And FWIW, without me running upstairs, I thought raw carrots counted as a point. I have been counting them. Ugh! " They calculate points off calories, fat, and fiber. 1 serving of 0-point veggies comes out to 0, but more than one serving can work out to a point using that method. I say, count them as 0-point veggies. No one got fat off V-8. ===== -- Wren-Moyer mwrenmoyer@..., mwrenmoyer@... __________________________________________________
Guest guest
My leader said that 1 cup of carrots are 1 point... There are some people who follow the previous way and don't count the point unless they go over 1 cup (or sometimes not at all). Under 1 cup, is 0 points. You may want to talk to your Leader and find out what she/he says. (are there male leaders - I've never seen one...) Guest guest
Well, part of my problem is that I'm doing the At Home version. I do have WW's 1-800 number and I guess I should give them a call on this. Also what's bothering me is the fact that WW online makes you count points for no point veggies....if I remember a recent thread correctly. Just doesn't make sense. At any rate, I'm losing while doing the program so I guess I shouldn't obsess! Guest guest
<G> there was a lot of complaining when they made some of the veggies 1 point for a cup... I know I was one of them. But I don't usually have 1 cup of onions at a time, and if I have 1 cup of carrots, I will count it for 1 point - but more than likely I'll stick to 1/2 cups (: Do you like the at home program? Guest guest
I guess it would depend on how and how much you cook them then. Guest guest
I'm curious why cooked veggies have a point where raw veggies have none....is it the fiber content change? It's the only sensible answer I know. I love broccoli any way it's fixed....but if I eat it raw, it's 0; if it eat it steamed/cooked, it's 1 pt. for the same serving. I'm on digest and can hardly remember who posts what ...but thanks for the apple recipe!! I too have quite a few given to me yesterday. I eat 1/4 apple every a.m. for b'fast in my oatmeal w/raisins and honey. I'm making unsweetened applesauce today to put in my freezer. Guest guest
Kailu.....I'd say you're doing excellent with your fruits and veggies. And yes, a serving is 1/2 cup...so you're filling up on them! Good job. Lyn Re: veggies I read the email on the apple, I eat between 1 - 2 apples everyday, I have a 8oz glass of grapefuit juice and the rest if celery, cucumber, corn or low soduim v-8 juice! The thing for me is that I try really hard to eat 3 square meals with one afternoon snack! I also discovered reading back through my week 1 book that 1/2 cup of veggie is a seving so that means I 've been having more than 5 servings a day? Guest guest
Just our of curiosity, I have never counted my broccoli as 1pt when I cook it? Becuase in the book when I look up the food value and use the FF cooking spray it doesn't tell me that it's 1 point is 0 for a serving & that's even if I use the point finder! Not to mention how on earth could steaming your veggies add points to them? I'm only asking becuase this is not something that I have been aware of & it hasn't affected my weight loss either way! Guest guest
broccoli is always a zero point food. Carrots and onions count as 1 pt per cup. Cauliflower, tomatos, cucumbers, cabbage, zuccini, yellow squash, are always zero unless you add something to them.
