Hi SallyI am in Cape Town – they are used as ubiquitous bedding plants all over in the city and suburbs as they are drought and generally disease resistant. Agapanthus roots and rhizomes are used here in traditional medicine in much the same way as Caulophyllum for preparing the uterus in final months of pregnancy and for promoting labour and for expelling the placenta.
