Hi Bonny I'm Sharon * and I'm new here too, I'm also 44 years old. :-)

I don't have any troubles with this iron stomach of mine other than I

can't seem to eat hot dogs any more, but methinks that's simply cuz

I'm getting older...lol. I do have a touch of asthma and have had

small asthma attacks in the past. And it seems that despite the fact

that I'm down to just 6 or 7 cigarettes a day now, it's beginning to

get worse.

I haven't been officially diagnosed with MS yet, but my

doctor " suspects " it he said.

You have a lot on your plate, girl, my thoughts are with you...

Luv, Sharon *

Welcome to the group, Mandy. I hope you wiil become an active member of the group. We already have over 1700 lurkers and if the rest of us join in, this will be one dead group. Supporting each other is how the group becomes interesting and helpful, imo.

I've been to Iowa a few times. Cold place right now, isn't it! That, along with three little ones, will really make it hard to exercise. Making it a family activity is probably the best way to make it work, and that will set a good example for the little ones as well.

Take care.

Elaine

Hi everyone, I just joined several lists and wanted to introduce myself!I am Mandy Landon and I am 27. I have gained a lot of weight due tosome family problems, and of course, just plain over eating! I want to

loose 100 to 120 pounds and keep it off! So, I have joined some liststo help me through encouragement, ideas, and motivation. I am marriedand we have two daughters and one boy. The girls are 3 and 5 and my

son is 1 and half. I want to set a good example for them. None of mychildren have any weight problems and I want to insure we keep it thatway. I did not gain much weight with the first two, but, wow, my sonput almost 60 pounds on me. At least I am blaming it on him. Hehe

Anyway, thanks for letting me join the list. I most likely will justlurk and learn, except for joining in on any " list activities " . I amreally serious about these 100 pounds! I am not in a hurry though. All

I want to lose is about 1 to 2 pounds a week, so I have given myself ayear to lose those 10 bowling balls. I just received my copy of the " Steak and Sex Diet " book on CD. Just for fun I ordered it several

weeks ago, and gave it to my husband, who needs to lose about 60pounds. He got a kick out of it when he opened it on Christmas Eveafter the kids were in bed. He promises to follow it, even the romancepart. I ordered the tame version, but, of course, he wants be to get

the not so tame version. We will see how it goes first! Has anyonefollowed it?Oh, I live in Iowa, and so it is a little hard to do any exercisingout doors for a while, or at least for me. I do not like to go out in

to the cold! Well my husband and I going to start on losing thisweight first thing in the morning, so tonight we are cleaning out therefrigerator and cupboards. I am going to donate a lot of the stuff toa senior center.

We are going to watch carbs and fats, and start exercising everyday. My husband says that he is going to follow the steak and sex diet forsure. Hehe I am not sure about it yet, but I will begin to look at the

day to day suggestions and recipes. I have read the first chapter andit was not quite like the name suggests. Not as much emphasis on thesex as I was afraid of! Of course, with the kids we could use somehelp in that area, too. My husband told me Christmas that if we make

the effort to change our eating habits, he will get us an ellipticalmachine. Has anyone used them and how do they help? Do you have topurchase an expensive one? I looked at some at Sears day beforeyesterday, and they looked like they were made well, and we have a

Sears card. Has anyone on the list used a Sear's machine?I know, I know, eating right and exercise, is the key, right? We arenot really going to follow any " regular " diet plan, unless we find one

we like by joining these lists. We have agreed not try any fad diet, but instead just quit eating as much, and change when we eat and ofcourse, start moving more. Thanks again for letting me join, and I will be learning through your

posts and suggestion for sure.Mandy

Welcome to the group, Mandy. I cannot comment on the book as this the first I heard of it. Maybe someone else has. I would guess the food part is a version of the Atkins diet, but that is merely a guess. On the exercise equipment, I do not have any or the use of any. I am sure some on this forum do use equipment and can comment. When the weather improves, maybe you can take the kids and do some walking. You seem to have set realistic goals, so good luck and, again, welcome.

Hi Mandy,

I am Janet. I am 55 and live in Raleigh NC with my 3 dogs where I work as a home health nurse. Right now I am thinking in terms of losing 10% of my body weight and am not thinking past that. Since you are checking out sites online, I would like to recommend Sparkpeople.com. It's free and a great site where you can keep track of your nutrition, exercise, and make friends as you go if you want to. I have been very pleased with it.

Nice to meet you,

JanetStart the year off right. Easy ways to stay in shape in the new year.

Hi Mandy!

I received a copy of the Steak and Sex Diet CD and will be

receiving the monthly E-mails too. I'm embarrassed to say that my

mother-in-law sent it to me as a gift. We are very close though so she

knew I was struggling with both issues. I have not really had the time

to look at it much, but what I've read so far makes more sense than

anything else that I have tried or read about. I really do not know

what to say about the sex part of it yet, but it too makes just common

sense. Stuff I already know, but do not know how to actually put it in

to action. My husband and I never, ever, talk about it, but I know he

is not as happy with what we do, or how often we do it as I would like

him to be. My mother-in-law is not someone that you would call

conservative, but I am. From what I have read so far, I can't wait to

get started with this! I am going to show it to my husband this

weekend and will let you know what he says or thinks. There is even an

exercise to help me introduce it to him without embarrassing him, or

making him feel that I am really unhappy. I love him but we need to

make some changes for sure. He is not really over weight at all, but I

still think this diet will be healthier for him.

I've got to go and pick up my mother. I will let you know what

happens this weekend!

Oh, I do agree with one thing that it says right off, the more I

lose the more I will enjoy sex, and the more sex I have the more I

will lose!

Hi, it's the newbie. I want to thank everyone for your nice comments

and encouragement, especially those that contacted my off list. I am

sorry that I probably will not be able to get back to everyone

individually. I had no idea that I would get that many emails.

I have started reading and following the SteakNSex diet. I thought it

was the Steak and Sex Diet, but I went to their web site to find out

more about this before I started it. I have found that she is just

someone that started writing this diet after her experiences with

having great success with the Atkins diet. So this is no famous person

or anything like that, just someone that wants to share what is

working for her and her husband. I also found out that it is not a

" sex " site or really a " diet " , but a " change your life if you want to "

site. One of the first things she says is that diets do not work; only

life changes will. I agree with that, but I am a little slow about

changing my " life " , or even wanting to. What I do like about this

" diet " is that the real emphasis is put on planning, planning those

life changes. I am finding that I really like reading what she says

about sex. It is not strange like I thought the title suggests. It

really is just about marriage and the importance of sex with in a

relationship. It is how she is starting me thinking about how sex is

important, but " planning " is the most important steps I can take.

Anyway, enough about that, we had a cat die, so I ate like a pig the

last day or so. I know, I know, it's an excuse, but I did just eat. So

now I am back to being serious. My husband and I did start exercising

everyday. We chose one of the easy fun exercises from the CD and we do

it together. No it is not one of the sex exercises! We have not even

finished filling out our individual profiles to show each other yet.

It is taking some thought, and I am still not comfortable actually

writing down this stuff, even though they are easy questions and I

will only share the answers with my husband!

Oh, I found the web site for the SteakNSteak Diet: SteakNSex.com.

That's for everyone that asked about it.

I got to go cook steak! Hehe My husband has told me that he wants to

have sex, I mean steak, every Monday evening like a date.

Thanks again,

Mandy

Hi Mandy, nice to hear from you again. I'm very sorry about your cat. It's hard to deal with something like that.

I'm surprised people contacted you offlist. I had no idea there were things happening below the surface of this group. I wonder why these people don't feel comfortable communicating on-list?

Take care.
