Guest guest
Hi All I have had some queries about Ferula since there was a short article published in the Health Sciences Institute journal (July 2006). One of my customers has sent me a copy. However, contrary to my recommendations, it says the following (p. 6): " It is also important to note that ferula should only be used for short periods - two to three days at a time. This is because studies have revealed that the plant may have the opposite effect if used for prolonged periods - over 10 days at a time - and can actually cause a reduction in testosterone levels and lower libido. In an academic article, Dr El-Thaher, who led a team of scientists in Jordan studying ferula said " Our studies indicate that the crude oil from the plant Ferula hermonis can enhance erectile function (improves impotence), however it becomes toxic if it is used for a long period of time. " " It then gives some references: Int J Impot Res. 2005; 17(6): 513-8 Int J Impot Res. 2003; 15(6): 450-5 and a further reference which is missing from the photocopy. Can anyone with access to a university library have a look at these references. Any comments - particularly you, Stuart?! Cheers Graham White B.Sc. (Herb. Med.) Guest guest
Graham Afraid I'm not going to be very technical here! Ferula is the singularly most disgusting thing I've ever had the pleasure to take. Really can't be used as a tincture and even capsules/tablets 'come back to haunt you'. I dropped using it a couple of years ago. I can believe it is toxic. I took it myself for about 2 weeks and had to stop when, walking through town one day, I realised all I could smell and taste was Ferula. My whole life was saturated with it!!! I did try it as an insecticide though....and with a dash of capsicum, kills all known bugs...and some plants..
