Guest guest
Pearl - Please accept my condolences on the passing of your MIL. I'm so very sorry, too, that I missed your first post... I just read your first post re: your MIL and her rapid decline and you questioned if others found themselves in the same situation... Well, yes, my mom was victim to rapid decline too. And similar to your story she had a stint in a geriatric psych ward for 3 weeks. She was sent there b/c of her being in near hysterics, wanting to run away from the ALF she was in, and even mentioned suicide a couple of times. We had her go to the geriatric pscyh ward for observation and to receive the tests she was currently on the waiting list for. While in this facility one of the meds they gave her was Risperidone (I'm a firm believer that it was the Risperidone that did her in.) W/in 3 weeks she went from being self-sufficient to needing 24/7 NH care. From being able to go to the bathroom on her own, to being incontinent. From being able to walk w/ a shuffle using a cane, to being in a wheelchair, unable to walk alone again. My mom, unfortunately, as well as your MIL, it seems fell in the 50% category of those LOs who can NOT handle antipsychotics - any of them.... My mom couldn't even handle the Seroquil. I say this b/c when we finally removed the small amount of Seroquil she was on, she was that much better w/ its removal... The little amount wasn't going to do her in, but the removal allowed her to be that much better. So, Pearl, I'm sorry that I had missed that first message from you. But you're not alone in that regard as well. There have been several LOs w/ rapid decline. In some ways it's a tough situation for them (in most ways), but then again I'm also a bit grateful that mom's journey was short b/c she was not at all happy even at the beginning stages. Before the rapid decline - the disease took so much of HER away that she wasn't happy. If you need more info regarding my mom, just let me know. Take care of you & your family now. Your husband needs that caring individual that I see on this board right now. ; loving daughter of Maureen of Boston, MA; dx'd with LBD in 2/2006 (confirmed via brain biopsy;) fell victim to rapid decline from Risperidone; Mom fell into the 50% category of those who could not handle antipsychotics; Was successful on Celexa, Exelon, ALA & B1; Mom became my Guardian Angel on Sept. 30th, 2006. > > just wanted to let all of u know that my mother in law died this morning. Guest guest
Pearl, I am so sorry to hear about your MIL's death. While it helps her be free, it doesn't always help those of us who are left to grieve. Peace to you family.
