Are there two strains of Cannabis Sativa? The legal one known as hemp which is

non THC and the illegal one containing THC which has mind altering properties?

Apparently industrial hemp is Cannabis sativa L. subsp. sativa var. sativa, whilst C. sativa subsp. indica is used medicinally(according to wikipedia),however Cannabis taxonomy is littered with disagreements. To my understanding Cannabis sativa with <1% THC is considered hemp. To: ukherbal-list From: maggers_pope@...Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2011 11:11:55 +0000Subject: Re: Re: Cannabis seed tincture

Well, thanks for that Florian...I just wonder; has anybody bought the Avicenna Cannabis tincture, and if so [my old clinic supervisor will kill me] what's it 'good for?' Maggie Maggie Pope BSc [Hons] MNIMH MCPPSedgemoor House39

If they used hemp leaves they would likely have quantities of cannflavin A, quercitin, beta sitersterol and a number of other flavonoids. When I was working in a non profit cannabis dispensary in America(which was supplying cannabis on a free/donation basis), they were juicing leaves before they contained significant cannabinoid levels(sometimes with celery and carrot) following a growing trend of juicing of cannabis in America, as an antiinflammatory and painkiller, with no psychoactive effects.I saw it being used for a Crohn's, Barretts esophagus, hemochromatosis, coccidiomycosis, PTSD patient and a Hep A,B and C patient. Both reported a reduction in overall pain. However, difficult to gauge placebo as they were concurrently taking cannabis in several other forms. To: ukherbal-list From: maggers_pope@...Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2011 13:36:43 +0000Subject: Re: Re: Cannabis seed tincture

It is interesting if they have a seed tincture, because hemp oil is very unstable, but filled with essential fatty acids and a wide variety of other constituents including CBD(which is a potent antispychotic, anxiolytic, antiinflammatory, painkiller,) and which counteracts THC, apigenin as a TNF alpha inhibitor, and some action on cox and lpo enzyme systemhttp://www.rd411.com/index.php?option=com_content & view=article & id=1430:hemp-oil & catid=100:miscellaneous-topics & Itemid=394There is an excellent study on non psychotropic cannabinoids http://cannabisinternational.org/info/Non-Psychoactive-Cannabinoids.pdf and an excellent book by Ethan Russo and Franjo Groterhermen, that covers the main cannabinoid, flavonoid and other terpenoids in cannabi, aswell as history etcs.. s http://www.amazon.co.uk/Handbook-Cannabis-Therapeutics-Bedside-Integrative/dp/0789030977/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8 & qid=1321664684 & sr=8-2To: ukherbal-list From: fscheibein@...Date: Fri, 18 Nov 2011 13:46:46 +0000Subject: RE: Re: Cannabis seed tincture

I also had some experience at a cannabis club where they used the shake to make tincture. The shake was free and the loose left over leaf from bud harvesting. It was mainly used for pain and was preferable for those with lung disease or intolerant of smoking. I cannot verify if the clients were using more than one form of cannabis, they would not have smoked it but may have eaten it. It seemed to work well for pain. This club also categorized which species of cannabis did what. The different species sometimes promoted sleep, or appetite, reduced pain, had more mental or physical effects.
