Guest guest
Hi All, My name is , and I live in Athens, OH. We have an 8 year old daughter with MDS, diagnosed shortly after her birth, as well as a typically-developing 3 year old daughter. Lizzie is in 2nd grade, and is doing really well, learning to read and write and do basic math. Besides the typical DS cognitive issues, her primary deficit is in speech, so she gets additional outside speech therapy. We live in a college town, but we're in Appalachia, so therapists and resources are quite limited, eg, the nearest OT is an hour away. Fortunately we don't need OT anymore, but lots of my friends' kids do. I also wanted to reiterate what someone (Ron?) had said in an earlier post about Medicaid waiting lists. In our part of Ohio, county Medicaid waiver waiting lists are _10_ years. No, I'm not kidding. We have a very limited number, and lots of poor folks (and more every day). So, don't delay on looking into what programs are available in your state, and find out how soon you need to get on any lists. > > Hi Everyone > We have another new family joining us today!
