Yuka, naso-pharyngeal reflux

Hello Yuka,

My computer needs a vacation and will not let me access

messages prior to today. I wanted to respond to your request

for information about naso-pharyngeal reflux but I can't

access it to read it again.. Could you possibly re-send it?

Off the top of my head, I would say Kendra had liquid come out

of her nose when drinking or eating until about 2 years ago. Her

suck, swallow has improved in the last two years. It was thought

this particular reflux was related to her soft-palate cleft. I think it

is also possible when sub-mucous cleft palate exists or problems with

velo-pharyngeal closure.. As you may remember,

Kendra had

a trach until 3 years of age. While she required fairly regular

suctioning when she had the trach, she has required none- zero-

since removal of the trach. Kendra sucks on her tongue sometimes

when hungry and the saliva generated in this way used to come out

of her nose.

Regarding the bubbling, has anything about the trach itself changed

to allow the bubbles to do this? Is the trach smaller allowing the

bubbles where they had not gone before? Is he sucking more frequently?

Has had oro-motor and feeding therapy to help with the sensory

and anatomical issues around swallowing? You may have mentioned

this already in your note.
