Guest guest
Just got home from grocery shopping. The new Wal-Mart has both the Blue Bell and Bryer's. I put the Blue Bell right back in the freezer case. Can we say " sugar alcohols galore?!? " Blue Bell Ice Cream ALONG WITH BLUE BELL ICE > CREAM! Ahhhh, the TV commercials say that the cows from Brenham (where > Blue Bell is made) think they are in cow heaven. Well, when you eat it you > think you're in heaven with them. I am from South Carolina & had never heard of Blue Bell Ice Cream until last week (and now). Our friend of our lives in Huntsville TX. He mentioned Blue Bell last week on the phone.. Wished he had mentioned it last year when my husband & I visited him!!! I wasn't d/x with diabetes then!!! But I can't complain I did enjoy some " goodies " at King's Candies Does Blue Bell have " sugar-free " ice cream?? I like Bryer's Vanilla " no sugar added " Reminds me of " snow cream " that we made when it snowed in SC with snow, evaporated milk & SUGAR!!! Guest guest
Blue Bell Ice Cream >Does Blue Bell have " sugar-free " ice cream?? I like Bryer's Vanilla " no >sugar added " Reminds me of " snow cream " that we made when it snowed in SC >with snow, evaporated milk & SUGAR!!! Yes, Jane, Blue Bell has " no sugar added ice cream " in a number of flavors. You can read about all the goodies at http://www.bluebell.com. Be careful to cover your keyboard, or your drolling might make the keys stick. ) Of course, you know that there's no such thing as true " sugar free ice cream " unless it is not based with milk or milk products. The most damning thing about milk is that it contains about 12g of sugar per 8 ounces -- irrespective of the fat content -- even skim milk. Drat! Guest guest
Does that name bring back some memories. When I was growing up, anytime the conversation went to ice cream, my dad was right there praising Blue Bell. In the spring of 87 my dad and I went back to visit his relatives and we spent about a week in Brenhan, TX. If anyone loves wild flowers, that's the place and the time, then you go on tour at Blue Bell and have all the ice cream you want. I know this isn't the greatest topic for diabetics, but we would go nuts if we didn't. When on the tour I found out that Blue Bell ships world wide. For the last few years of his life I would have a order delivered of his favorite flavor, strawberry. Just thought I would share,

Guest guest
Yes, Vicki, Blue Bell is only sold in the south, (or so I thought.) In fact, you can't even get it in Arkansas or Louisiana. They sell Blue Bunny in other states. (Not the same thing) That's what my diabetes educator was telling me about. It's not bad. They sell it at Wal-Mart and they have some little bars which taste like an Eskimo Pies but are only about 1/2 the size. They're sweetened with Aspartame and I was told that I could have them occasionally. They are called " Sweet Freedom Lite Krunch Bars " They also sell it in half gallons. Teri, are you sure it wasn't Blue Bunny that you saw at Wal-Mart? I know I have found it all the way up to Tennessee and Georgia. Blue Bell even brags that you can only get it here in Texas. The creamery is in Brenham, TX which is 101 miles from here. It's huge and you can take a tour and have lots of samples. I have never been able to go through it but I understand it's really nice. Love ya! Tootie Re: Blue Bell Ice Cream I don't know, Vicki. I never saw it here until the new Wal-Mart opened. Guest guest
what about potato skins? i don't think they cause much of a spike if you scoop out most of the " white meat " . kathy hibbard, type 2, dx 10/99, d & e, may start glucophage therapy. Guest guest
I could go look at the carton if I had some but I'm out of it now. The truth is that I only eat a tiny bit with my cereal occasionally and it doesn't affect my blood sugar at all. When you consider that I'm so careful with all of the rest of the program, i.e. no white stuff.....no bread, no pasta, no rice, no potatoes......I guess I can afford that small amount once every week or two. Heck, I'm not dead yet and not planning to go anytime soon. I have to stick around and keep all of you people on your toes. Guest guest
I forgot.....I know that there is sugar in the milk. I even have to use Coffee Mate on my cereal and it is a non-dairy product. That's why I can only eat a tiny bit of the ice cream. Milk has definitely been proven to be one of my problems. Severe stomach cramps and nausea. Same for eggs. Guest guest
Whoah - look at that ingredients list ... polydextrose, sorbitol, maltodextrin (plus aspartame) ... The polydextrose is the third ingredient listed ... 30 grams of carbs per cup, plus 6 grams of fat (including 4 grams sat. fat) - and that's the low-fat plain vanilla. " No Sugar Added " means just that ... no SUGAR added. Susie

Guest guest
Well Susie, now I don't know if I'm type 1 or 2. Maybe the Endo will be able to tell me. I finally was able to get an appointment on the 29th of this month. I guess it really doesn't matter one way or the other which I really am. I just want to know. I'm sure it will have no bearings on what I can or can't eat. I've got things going on a pretty regular routine and keeping my BG's in the normal range except when I'm running fever like the past 2 weeks. Boy, these summer colds are the pits.
