Absolutely nothing! For safe weight loss, you want to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Most people average 1/2 to 1 pound per week. Very few people consistently lose 2 pounds or more per week. And when you consistently lose more than 2 pounds the balance of that is water weight. The slower you lose the easier it is to keep off. You WANT to lose inches and not pounds. Yes pounds are important, but the inches rule!

I give you my example. When I first started Tae Bo 6 years ago, I weighed 241 pounds 9 months later I weighed 165 pounds. I went from a 22/24 to a 6/8. When I was in high school, I was my smallest and that was a 9/10 at 125. When the scale was going up, I was a TIGHT 14 at 165. I lost 75 pounds and at least 64 inches over all. I have a friend who lost 10 pounds and a ton of inches. She went from a 7/8 to a 3/4, but it looks like she lost more weight due to the inches.

And a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat. Muscle is denser and takes up less space.

i've lost 10 " all around my body, but have only lost 7 lbs. What am I doing wrong?

you are absolutely right. i don't know why i didn't think of what

you said. i guess, in a time of discouragement, i think

irrationally and start wondering what i'm doing " wrong " , and not

think about everything I'm doing right. that's amazing. and you

know, your outcome with weight loss and pant size is the same exact

thing i'm shooting for. i'm 240 right now, and want to go down to

165. i think that it is a reasonable weight goal, and i know that

it's going to take some time. i can totally see a difference in my

body, physically and mentally. i am much more focused with everyday

activities now that i have taebo in my everyday schedule. about 2

years ago, i was convinced that i had some sort of learning

disorder. but, i have found that over the past few weeks i have

been able to concentrate more. i think that that is due to my focus

and intensity i try and bring to my workouts. i actually have

stomach muscles now instead of just a belly! that's probably the

most important thing i have noticed. also, just from the past few

weeks, i have lost almost 2 " on my biceps and 3 " on my thighs. my

thighs were the things that suprised me the most though, because

although i do have chunky legs, they are really strong.

what you said about the average weekly weightloss makes me feel

better too. i've started weighing myself every friday morning and

then writing down the numbers, and i usually fluctuate a pound here

and a pound or 2 there. but i think that from now on, i'm going to

stop worrying about the numbers and maybe take all my measurements

every other week. that way, i will really see the results instead

of thinking that nothing has changed. because, i am doing all the

work, and i know that i am changing. also, i do think that i am

developing more muscle at the same time that i'm loosing fat. what

you said about muscle and fat weighing the same, but muscle being

less dense also made so much sense! thank you!!

i guess, my other question i have for you, is how did you do it

all? you have done something i'm trying to do, and i guess i'd like

to find out what you did in order to loose the weight and the

inches.

i really appreciate all your help. reading things like this helps

me keep going!

I was the same way, wanting it all off yesterday! I think we've all done that.

As far as workouts all I did was Tae Bo (I now supplement with

weights). I started out with the Studio Basic and added the 8

minute to make a longer workout. I did do the Studio Advanced

every so often. I had no issues with the cardio, but getting through

the floor work was a toughie. About 2 months into my Journey, the

Live! series came out. I began with the Basics and would do the

Studiio Basic and Basic Live 1 back to back. Then as the others

came out, I'd alternate. I finally bit the bullet and ordered the

Advanced. So I started alternating between the basics and

advanced. I averaged 5-6 days a week.

As for eating, I was doing Weight Watchers.

i guess, my other question i have for you, is how did you do it

all? you have done something i'm trying to do, and i guess i'd

Probably nothing, sounds like you are building muscle which is exactly what you want to do. More muscles = more calorie burn.

You are doing nothing wrong. It sounds like you are doing fantastic. Don't

let the scale play with your mind. You are losing inches and gaining muscle-

that is what matters :)

Sounds like you've built a bunch of muscle! Muscle is denser than

fat, takes up less room but is heavier. So you see lost inches but

not so much pounds. This is a GOOD thing. Muscle burns more calories

than fat.

You've gotten a lot of great advice & I hope you are feeling better

about what you have accomplished.

I did want to note that a friend of mine has written a book " Thin

People Don't Clean Their Plates " and in it she suggests eating 30 to

40 grams of fat. Here I had been just making sure I was at 20% to

30% - well, a lot of days, it even staying in that percentage, it was

higher then the 30 to 40 grams.

Just wanted to mention it, take it as you will.

Best of luck in your journey! And congratulations on the 10 inches

lost! I did Taebo for many, many years and only lost 10 pounds, but I

lost a lot of inches. le

Beckie,

I appreciate your words because I am working to help my son decide what he wants to eat rather than me deciding for him. I ask him what he wants to eat at each meal. I am learning how this works so sometimes if he is consistently not selecting healthy food or omitting veggies, then I will tell him that he needs to choose a protein and a veggie. I tell him to think about what he wants to eat and I do my best to not decide for him. So, I am hoping to help my son stay in tune with his own inner knowing. Plus, I think to myself often that I decide what I want to eat all the time, why can't my children do the same?

I have done a lot of analysis of my eating habits and one of the conclusions that I have come to is that many of my habits are due to going to school as a child for the very reason that you listed, I ate because I would not have an opportunity otherwise and did not want to be hungry for the rest of the day. I know I ate often when I was not hungry and at times I over ate because I got so hungry during the day.

Your points are very affirming for me. Thank you!

Re: ahhh!

I always remembered what a Nurse Practioner said to me once about loosing weight. She said to loose weight to keep at 20 grams of fat a day. To maintain weight to eat 30 grams of fat a day. When I started to read fat grams on labels or at Fast food. I would relate the Big mac as being about 2 DAYS worth of fat. 'that is all I can have for 2 DAYS!!!' It just put things in perspective. I will have to pick up that book. I have a 1 year old, and I don't want him to learn that he has to clean the plate. Since I hear so many people including a few relatives always say to their kids "you have to eat everything on your plate" or "are you eating what's on your plate" It just drives me crazy. I have heard that by the age of 5 most kids have lost the ablity to eat when they are hungry, and eat because they are told to and at certain times of day. I am sure part of that has to do with School too. They only have set times to eat.that's my $.02 Beckie who is still working on the 21 day challenge.
