Hi, Chelle! Welcome to the group. Congrats on your 30# loss! I

don't equate serious with never makes a mistake either. I have made

a few. We're only human, after all. But the serious is geared

toward staying OP, not having free days after weigh-ins, going out to

eat and splurging because it's a special occasion, etc. The serious

is learning how to go out to dinner and eat OP, eating right on

special occasions, etc.

I'm in Minnesota, too!

welcome to the group,

Lyn

Well, after last week, I should probably unsub. :(

However, I do regard that as a week that I was

essentially off program. I'm not kicking myself for

it, but I'm recognizing that that was a *mistake,* not

just a " splurge " or something.

And I'm back OP as of 9:00 last night, taking it one

meal at a time...

I'm sure I won't be the only one to say that this past week has been difficult

for many to stay on program. Emotional Eating has got me where I am today. The

events of the week have certainly shown me some triggers....

You have my support!

Well, I posted it more as an explanation of why I fell

off the wagon than as a plea for advice. I know

*exactly* what happened, and I've got some strategies

for trying to avoid it.

1. For various reasons, my partner and I have been

eating out a lot lately, at a lot of different

restaurants. I've been getting tired of our current

standard few restaurants (some with points-friendly

meals), too.

2. My partner has been going increasingly off-program

lately. (That has subsequently stopped; she went to

her diabetes education class and got scolded about her

food diary. Part of that was poor record keeping

(they read her dinner and evening snack as one meal,

for example), and part of it was that her doctor has

told her that as long as she's losing weight and her

test results are as good as they are, she doesn't need

to be extremely careful about what she eats--she can

eat two candy bars for dessert and not spike her blood

sugar above what it's supposed to be *before* eating,

right now. But part of it was that she's been eating

junk.)

Now, I know that she is her, and I am me, and what she

does does not have to serve as a model for me. But it

gets hard. So I got weak, and agreed to go to a few

restaurants where it's very hard (if not impossible)

to stay on program, and didn't even *try* to make good

choices. I would stay OP all day, but then dinner

would come, and I would blow it.

So here is the current strategy:

We're staying out of restaurants unless we have *no*

choice, right now. I might tell her to eat peanut

butter if I don't want to cook, but we're staying home

to eat. (This decision was partly a financial one, I

must admit. <g>) I think my biggest problem was that

we were eating out so much that I was getting bored.

If I wait a few weeks before going to a restaurant

again, *anything* will be a treat. :) (There will

still be fast-food breakfasts on the weekends, I

admit--our weekend mornings are incredibly crazy. But

those aren't really a problem for me--I *love* the

fruit and yogurt parfait at Mc's, and it

currently fits *well* in my points range.)

So far, I've been OP for three days straight, and I

think the no-restaurant rule is helping that

immensely.

And luckily, my partner is back OP as well, so that

helps me out a lot. (She gained six pounds last week.

I maintained. I'm feeling a bit smug about that,

because I did at least try *some* of the time.)

Lyn said: <. When I started WW, my husband threw a fit. " I'm NOT eating

fat-free food, I'm NOT eating low-fat, I'm not eating that garbage. " >

While my DH was in the Heart Institute, a man in his mid 30's had been

admitted with a heart attack also. I heard him actually yell that exact

phrase. He was so much in denial that once he was able to dress himself, he

wore civilian clothing instead of hospital gowns. He is also now dead.

Anyhow, in re that statement. 15 years ago DH was of the same attitude, but

I wanted to do WW. So, being a sneaky wench...I started simply.

At first my stuff and his stuff. Then big salads with the dressing on the

side, his dressing and my dressing. Eventually I would mix the bottles

contents for 'his' bottle. By the end of a year he had fat free......in the

regular bottle.

I oven fried chicken, cutting fat back that way. DH ate the skin, I did

not. Eventually he gave up the skin.

Potato/macaroni salads, I mixed half and half regular and fat free

dressing. Eventually down to non fat. Slowllllly is the key.

He still gets a few high calorie/fat treats, but keeps the amount in check.

I also implemented a rule....all of those treats go into his hobby room.

When the cookie jar is empty, bring it back to me and I will wash it and

refill it.

By the time DH learned of his inherited sky high cholesterol, he had

already started eating healthfully, and now after all of these years we are

on auto-pilot and make wise choices automatically.

Yes, on occasion we do have something absolutely decadent. Chocolate

cheesecake is my bane. But I plan for it and cut way back on fat intake

before and after a few days.

In short, go slowly. Fruit bowl on the table is a good start for someone

with kids who like junk.

Hi Donna, I'm in Central Michigan and I'm 49. I'm also a veteran of

WW. This time I'm learning to let go of my " all or noght " mentality. It's

the reason why I've never made it to goal. I guess I'm learning patience

in my old age. LOL. I wish you much success on your journey. I, too,

have about 50 pounds to lose so I'll be watching your progress. Please

post often. <g>
