Guest guest
Well, today I have a new view of the help aids for " Seniors. " I pulled a muscle in the small of my back yesterday and as the night progressed, I thought I might rather die. Fortunately, I did make it through the night, barely, and now have many new awarenesses. The port potty over the regular toilet is a real help in standing with handles and a better height for standing. I found my self in a bathroom with no grip bars to help pull myself up and spent a wee bit of extra time trying to decide how I was going to do the next move. Stand up! I considered getting into my whirl pool tub and realized, there was no way I was going to get out of the tub without a lot of help and would be spending the rest of the night there if I tried to get in. By the time I figured out where Mom's old cane was and gratefully used it, it was morning. But the point I want to make was the FEELINGS I was having about it all. Now I think I have a better understanding of Mom and how helpless she would feel. By this morning when I could " call a friend " and got a hold of my daughter, I was more than happy to talk to them and have them do a bit of caregiving. I know I have bad knees, but they weren't a problem compared to the pain in my lower back which I finally figured out how I had twisted yesterday trying to be helpful to the Appliance repair man. ( Who wasn't even that nice.) Put in all the pull bars in important places for yourself as you get older as well as you LO.. Donna R Caregave for Mom (after I brought her from WI to MI) for 3 years and 4th year in a nh. She was almost 89 when she died in '02. No dx other than mine.
