Guest guest
Hello to my extended family (thats how we feel) I am not always responding but I read nearly everything that's written:) Hello again, I am mom of Darryle-12, Laz-10, Baby Krystal (MDS)-5 YRS...Krystal has started her Kindergarten class for the first time. As a mother/parent of a child with MDS. It can be very frustrating when it comes to dealing the public education system here in Florida. I wont bore anyone with the whole process of ups and downs we went through just to get her in the right area-district school. In which I still can't understand why it was so difficult to register her as I did my other 2 sons when they first started school, which is usually in the assigned school district in the boundaries of the home address. My husband and I found that ti nit make sense at all. My daughter IEP clearly reads Speech therapy. I spoke to the ESE specialist at the school and she has given me an appt to come in to go over the IEP and to meet the Speech Therapist (supposively). I think my questions will be as a first time parent sending my precious and sweet flower gift off to share with others will be: (Sorry if this maybe a little over protective) 1. What are other ideas or concerns that I should bring up that may come up later as she attends her first year? -with the ESE specialist regarding the services for my child? (while attending the school) 2. For any parent who has been through the stage of kindergarten time, my precious one is getting to know her new surroundings. How did you handle the breakfast time, drop-off for school and the after-care of your now elementary child? 3. Are there any programs in Florida that we can get her involve in such as dancing, gym, singing? All the things she love to do. I am researching and looking into activities in our neighborhood but there's always things we may not be aware of but maybe someone else.
